How Much For Graduation?

My cousins son is graduating from high school and we want to send him a check. I am pretty close with this cousin even though they live in another state and we do not see each other that often. We keep in touch with phone calls and emails. Also, I am this son's godfather.

What are people giving these days? I have lost track. Any suggestions would be appreciated since DW and I are at a loss. Jay

This subject has come up a few times lately (and every May/June). I think that the answer is, "How much do you feel comfortable giving?".

Graduation gift checks seem to start in the $20-$25 range and go up from there. More if you are attending the graduation ceremony, attending a party in the child's honor, are close, and/or can afford it.

Personally, in the situation you describe, I would probably send $50-$100, depending upon my finances.

Thanks ethansmom. We did get an invitation to the ceremony but we obviously can not attend (they live in FL and our kids are still in school). Money is not a problem, though DW might argue with me on that point. Thanks again, Jay

I agree with this.

I sent most of the kid's in DH's family $25 each (with the exception of a few that we were very close too who got a little more).

I just sent my niece $50 (which is what they sent my DD last year).

I sent our vet's DD $100, but that was because they sent my DD $100 last year (I normally wouldn't have sent that much). We horse show with them, and they're fond of our DD.

In your case, just what the poster said, $50-100 (if it were me).

My 2 cents...since you are his Godfather...I would send more than $100...whatever you feel comfortable with. It would be pretty exciting for the kid.

when I graduated my Godparents sent me a couple hundred dollars and that was in the 80's. I had not even seen them since I was little. but they were older and well off...so I think it was very generous on their part.

Before reading the other posts my answer would have been $100. But if money isn't an issue and you are inclined to do so I would send a little more.

I would say at least $100.

My son graduated from high school last year and his gifts ranged from $50 to $250, depending on the relationship.
