My neice is graduating high school this weekend. What is the average amount people give for gifts?

Whatever you feel comfortable giving is the right amount. That being said, we usually give around $25, I think.

I know it isn't going to be what you want to hear, but our $$ really depends on a number of things.

The biggest is - in that side of the family, how many nieces and nephews will eventually graduate from high school? (i.e. if you give a really great gift, you will most likely need to give the same amount to other nieces and newphews.

We had a niece graduate (from DH's side) from HS last summer, on that side of the family, we purchased a really fun gift, as well as a check for $50. The total gift was ~$75.

Next year, the first niece on my side of the family will graduate from HS. On that side of the family, gifts are much less extravagent, and I will most likely do something that totalled in the $30-40 range.

please ignore my double post.

It really is just what you can afford. I would love to give my nieces and nephews more, but I have 27 nieces and nephews, with a graduation a year until 2019, some years, we have multiple graduations, and in a few years, HS graduation will be next to college graduation, and then the weddings will be starting soon, I am sure.

I have to keep it low, and keep it the same, so I give a crisp clean $50 bill.

DD just graduated and her gifts ran from $25 to $300. You should give what is comfortable for you.

One aunt and uncle gave me $50 last year
This is terrible, but I don't remember what the other aunt and uncle gave me

The rates around here seem to be close family or close family friends give $50, the family friends or family that aren't quite as close give $20-25

My son graduated last week and my brother gave him $50. The grandparents gave $100. I think this is just fine. However, I agree it would depend on how many upcoming neices and nephews you have coming along.

when i graduated hs, i got a range from 20-150...it all depended on how close iw as to the family/friends that gave me gifts...

I would say $50 to $100 is pretty consistent for all "family events" barring marriage... baptism, communion, confirmation, graduation.

We had FOUR high school graduates in our family/friends circle this year!

They all got $25 Visa gift cards. Those parents really should plan better - the years with just one grad - that grad will be lucky!

DD just graduated from college. I know she got $100 plus a $20 gold piece (worth about $700 today) from my brother and SIL, and a trip to Africa from us (plus $250) $150 in cash (stacks of banded $1 bills) from our neighbor, who also attended the graduation (we live in FL; it was in PA) and $50 from my DM. (I handle her finances, so that's why I know)

I sent all of my nieces/nephews $50 for HS, and $100 for college, graduations.
