How much for 1/2 cord of wood?

We haven't bought wood for the fire place for a long time. We usually throw one of those man made fire logs in the fire. Just light the wrapper and it burns without "tending" the fire. Those logs have gotten very expensive, so now we are going to supplement with real fire logs.

So, my question is, what do you all pay for 1/2 a cord or a whole cord of wood? I realize prices will be different depending on where you live. We're just looking for a ballpark, so we know what to expect before going on the hunt for it. Thanks all.

We just paid $150 for a cord. We had to pick it up.

My bf sells firewood here in VA and gets 125.00 a cord delivered.

One thing that makes a huge difference in the cost of the wood is if it is seasoned or "ready-to-go" for use in a fireplace. Some firewood sellers around us need to "kiln-dry" the wood, to remove the moisture.

We've always purchased kiln-dried wood. Although, our next cord of wood will probably just be "regular" wood. We bought an outside firewood rack, that covers the wood. We'll be able to order our wood and let it dry-out for about 2 years before we need it, so we will not need kiln-dried wood anymore.

I've paid $200 for a full cord delivered (dumped). It wasn't seasoned, so we're using it now (got it last year I think). A year outside helps. I'd love to find seasoned wood, but don't know anyone around here that has it.

Yes, those instant logs have gone way up! I don't like how they don't crackle as much anyway. My DH buys them occasionally.

Oh, and we're in the suburbs of Maryland. Kind of rural here. HTH.

We're in the Chicagoland area and it was about $125 per cord (it's been a couple of years, so I could be wrong).

We've found the best deals by picking up the cheapy trader magazines in the grocery store checkout lines (wooden nickel, etc.) and looking up firewood. You might want to start there for your area.

A full cord is a large amount of wood. It measures 4 feet high by 4 feet wide by eight feet long (4' x 4' x 8') and has a volume of 128 cubic feet. That is a lot of wood. Before you buy any, do some quick research at this link so you know the right questions to ask and the measurements to make.

I was in shock, too! We pay $250-275 for a cord! We buy five cords and heat our small house mainly by wood for the whole Maine winter. If wood was only $150/cord, we'd have fires year round!

In west michigan we can get 1 cord for $125.00. It is usually oak that we get. We buy 3 to 6 cords at a time and they charge a $25.00 delivery fee. It costs more for seasoned. We use it in our outdoor wood burner and also in the fireplace in our living room.

If you just drive around our area there are always people with a stack of wood outside their house with a for sale sign on it. You could buy much smaller amounts of wood that way.

We had a wood burning stove to heat our old house. There was a little 90-year old man that lived near us that cut firewood as his job - he delivered a full cord (took 2-3 trips) for $75. He'd even stay & help my kids stack it. What a bargain! We didn't realize just how much of a bargain that was until he died & we called someone else - they wanted $150 for a cord delivered. Sounds like compared to some even the $150 was a deal!

... paid $ 175 but split the cost w/my brother in law around the corner. They dont stack it, just dumped it in our driveway. Already split, but probably needs to dry out a bit.

Wow! I guess we get a great deal around here (se corner of WI). I pay $55 for 1/2 cord and have to haul it ourselves.

We paid 250 for a cord of seasoned last year delivered & dumped. I see 1/2 cords this year for 175.
