How much flight time changing is reasonable?

I purchased Delta flights in April. We are return to CT on New Year's day. My original flights had us leaving at 7:30am, arriving in Atlanta at 8:45, connecting from Atlanta to Newark at 9:30am and home by noon.

First Delta changes the first flight to leave at 6:10am, arriving at 7:20am in Atlanta, and now they have pushed the second flight departure from 9:30am to 10:45!!!

After New Year's eve we have to be there 1 hour and 20 minutes earlier and we now have a 3 and a half hour layover in Atlanta, up from 45 minutes.

Are these changes "reasonable"???:confused3

They sure don't look as good as the original flights I purchased.

Check the schedule and call them. I have flown Delta on my last 2 or 3 trips and they were good about changing my flights to more acceptable times when they changed the schedule. Have the schedule in front of you and know which flights you want. Looks like there are alot of flights from Orlando to Newark but some of them connect at MSP or DTW, which is way out of the way.

I don't know what you mean by reasonable. I'm sure that they make sense to Delta. A 3 1/2 hour layover isn't that unusual. If you don't like the changes, contact Delta to switch to another flight, if you can find a better one with availability. Or ask for a refund and fly on another airline.

Hand pick alternate flights you would like. They should switch you to your choice at no extra charge if it is not sold out even if the fares you saw when browsing are somewhat higher.

I would not bother with a change less than 45 minutes. However having to leave 1/2 hour earlier and you don't arrive until 1/2 hour later is a 1 hour change.

Agree with everyone else... go to Delta's website and put in your search (MCO to EWR) for Jan. 1. Once the flights come up, click the button on the left to search by 'Schedule' instead of 'Price'. Now all the flights for that day are listed. Find times that you want to use. For example...

Depart MCO @ 8:30AM Flight 1718 Arrive ATL @ 10:10AM
Depart ATL @ 10:45AM Flight 935 Arrive EWR @ 1:15PM

That's a tight connection, but it may work. There are other flights too... all depends on how late you want to leave/arrive.

Once you find specific flights you want, call Delta, tell them their new flights won't work, but you've found some that will... good luck.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. Delta did good. I'm actually flying out of jacksonville. I found a non-stop for the same day, leaves 40 minutes later (6:50am) but gets in to NYC 4 hours earlier (9:20am). They switched my entire family, no problem and no fees! :thumbsup2
