how much does it cost to stop payment on a check?

It's $30 at the bank I used to work for, but sometimes they would waive the fee for long-term customers.

Well I found my answer to how much it costs. It'll run me 26.00. I'm tempted to just let it ride for awhile.

Fire, if you've had your account at the bank for a while, and you haven't had a stop payment before, it's worth asking if they'll wave the fee.

I've had the acct a little over a year and only switched than beacuse I moved. I'll ask if I can ever get to the bank during biz hours. I'm going to try tracking it thru mail and stuff first. It hasn't been quite a mo yet.

We charge $25, but if you use our online banking, it's free. We usually waive the fee if it is felt that the check was lost.

We charge $20. Remember that a stop payment is only good for 6-months and that you can verbally request a stop and have it be held for 14-days. The bank will send you the paperwork to sign and as long as you return it in 14-days, you will be covered for 6-months. There's no need to have to go into the bank. If you ask to speak to the manager, their's a good chance that s/he can waive it over the phone. Just be nice and polite when asking.
