Hi
This is our 1st trip to Disney and we are staying at pop.
We have no idea of cost of food. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much food would cost at pop, disney theme parks and resturants.

Thanks
Angie

Hi, coming from the UK we found food and drink in the US much cheaper than at home full stop! It depends what you go for really, if you just grab a counter service meal you will be looking at a couple of dollars (maybe $5-8 depending what you get), for a service meal, buffets tend to be in the mid $20 mark, and menus range from $15-30 in an average type of place. Again it depends on what you order, what you have to drink, and tax and service are added on top of that! I think the tax is about 7% ish in Florida, so add that on too!

You should check out the menus at www.allearsnet.com She has them listed by themepark/resort and has prices included. That should give you a pretty good idea of how much you will spend.

I agree - look at allears.net. Obviously, if you go to counter service vs. table service, your going to be spending less. Not sure if you are going this year or not, but in 2009, they are starting a counter service dining plan.

Anyway, we kind of go by Rachael Ray standards - $40/day/person.

Here are some things we did last time to save money.
1. Brought breakfast food - toaster pastries, granola bars, fruit. If you buy a refillable mug from your resort, you can fill that up in the morning and eat the food you brought.

2. Took sodas into the park. It really did not feel like that much more weight in my bag. I just ordered two cups of ice or two waters at the counter service, drank or poured out the water, and then poured the soda into the ice.

3. Use counter service. Especially in Epcot, you can find great food at the counter service. It's a little harder in DHS, but the food is still good.

Good luck!

On our 10 day June vacation we paid for meals OOP. Well, our room bill was the price of another vacation! (and we stayed at the GF!!! :rotfl2: )

This trip we added on the DxDDP. It's really a huge savings.

You can add on any dining package at check in.

I didnt know this. How much is it?
I didn't book hols direct with disney can i still do this??

Call 407 W-DISNEY and ask them when and how you can add the dining packages. There are several to select from. The Basic and the Deluxe are the most popular.

but you must purchase at least a one day ticket for each member of your party.

My friend added the tickets and dining package at check-in at SSR. Her FIL is a DVC owner, don't know if that makes any difference or not???

Sorry, forgot about the tickets! :rolleyes1

DVC pays for the dining plan upon check in.

For all other resort stays you MUST add the dining plan at least 3 days before check in.

And as far as I know, you STILL have to have the dining plan added to your DVC stay before you arrive. I've read that time and time again on the DVC boards. It's only paying for it that you do when you check-in.

That is a hard question to answer. We ahve gone on a tight budget where we ate lots of CS, shared meals and ordered water, and we have gone on the DDP where we ate like royality. Really it's whatever your preference is and budget allows. I second, (third, or fourth maybe) checking out AllEars menus, they are great to see waht you are interested in and roughly how much it will run you.
Have fun, to me that is one of the most fun parts of planning! We pretend we are there and say what we will be eating. Silly I know, but it gets us even more excited!

No one can add the dining plan at check-in.

DVC members pay for it at check-in, but it must be added to the reservation at least 2 days prior.

Tickets are a separate purchase for DVC members - the tickets are not tied to the reservation at all. So DVC members could purchase tickets at check-in. DVC members do not have to purchase tickets to get the dining plan.

Package guests must add it at least 3 days prior to check-in. Packages must be paid in full 45 days prior to check in - so if you add DDP to your package 4 days before you check in, you must pay for it when you add it.

There are a couple of reports that annual passholder room/dining package bookings have to have it added up to 6 days before check-in, but there is conflicting information on that one. It may be 3 days also.

If you are not an annual passholder or a DVC member, you must purchase a package including your resort room and at least 1 day base park tickets (you may purchase any type or length of ticket, but you must purchase some sort of ticket in conjunction with the package) for every member of your party age 3 or over in order to also get the dining plan.

(I do not know what the rules are for booking from the UK, or if they are different from the US booking rules for packages)

Luckily we had free dining or else our fries, hot dog & pop with cracker jack meal (Casey's) would have cost over $30 for the three of us. That was also our cheapest meal! :thumbsup2 Definitely check out the Allears menus as a guideline.

The prices tend to be a bit lower than at a major league sporting event (but not much).

In May we will be spending 700 something for the both of us with the DP. We are staying 9 nights.

It is cheaper than my local Six Flags (no, seriously) but still pretty expensive, but the food is generally pretty good, and it is a vacation after all.

During our trip in August, for our group of seven (one kid, six adults) it seemed that Table Service meals ranged roughly between $150 and $200 (about $20 - 30 per person) plus tip (although most of them were on the DDP so all we paid was the tip). Counter service seemed to mostly run around $8 - $10 per person.
