My parents are new DVC owners, and I'm the one who knows about this site, so I figured I'd ask a question that just popped up. Does the Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot affect availability through DVC? We're planning to go during April Vacation next year (hopefully the last week of April) which is right after the festival typically starts. Would this impact our chances of getting a place? We were really hoping too, to be able to get one at a place besides our home resort, so that we could be more in the middle of things (SSR is too far away from the actual parks). So we were planning on booking 7 months out. So should we settle for the home resort, or do we have a chance with others?

April is a very busy month, school vacations usually stager 2 weeks and those week are very busy and can be extremely hard to get. My advise would be to book your home resort at 11 months and then try to switch at 7 mos. The epcot resorts will be the hardest to get for that obvious reason. We usually are there every year the last week of April/1st week of May and that is usually not too bad. The flower festival and food and wine are my two favorites and that is usually our 2 trips a year.

The flower festival is about 2 months long I think. April is a busy month because of school breaks. May is slower. I do not think the festival has a huge impact on crowds.

I believe Easter is early next year so by the end of April things will really slow down-May is a dead month there, if you are interested in going then. At any rate-the rule here as I am sure you have heard before-Is buy where you want to stay.
