How much do you tip your hairdresser?

Wow I feel ripped off. I pay $55 just for a cut & style. And my hair is short. She raised her prices a few months ago... used to be $50. I only tip $5-$10 as I think her prices are too high to begin with.

I was just wondering if anyone else felt ripped off by hairdressers. At the salon I go to, they get "promoted" every few months, so their prices go up and the next thing you know a year goes by and you're paying double for the same exact services which are actually taking less time and effort, because they're trimming instead of "designing" a new style, and they're touching up your roots instead of "creating" a new color, etc. They're also always trying to push products making you feel as if you're cheap for not purchasing them. I need to find somewhere new, LOL! Thanks for listening.

I goto an aveda salon like the one you talked about and I found out that their promotions are directly related to how much product the sell. I was like that does it no more products for me! lol (J/K)

And I am also glad to know that about the owner/tip thing because my girl bought the salon where i went and so I quit tipping her but since i never carry cash i would write my check for a few dollars extra for her to give to her assistant. She had a baby and i found a new person while she was on leave and later heard she was glad since I was a lousy tipper ! I feel bad for the assistant tho apparently she got stiffed all those years. LOL

I tip $15 for my haircuts. I don't feel ripped off because I think my stylist does a pretty good job :)

I usually pay around 100.00 when I get my hair colored and a trim done. Yes, It's really expensive but I love my stylist, he always does an incredible job. Then I usually tip him around 20.00 on top of that.

I recently moved to PA, in the middle of nowhere, but I still drive back to NJ(1 1/2) to get my hair done. I skimp on a lot of things, my hair just isn't one of them. ;)

Hey,

I used to be a hairdresser and your tip is fine. However, if the person owns the shop a tip is not necessary.

Hope that helps.
