the bike carriage ride from Citywalk to RPR? I forgot what you call those things but it was so nice to ride one back to the hotel after a long day at the parks. I tipped the guy $10 for me and my 2 older girls (8&6) - he seemed thankful.

It's like a three minute ride. Two dollars should be fine for a three minute ride. That also seems like a cheap amount of money to hand someone for a tip, so I'd never use this service in favor of avoiding the awkwardness of the situation.

Yea I was assuming I overtipped but I didn't know what was appropriate... it seemed longer than 3 minutes though.

He was friendly and talking to me the whole time. It ended up he was from Philly (so basically a neighbor of NJ where I'm from) so we going back and forth in conversation.

We use them plenty depending on the given situation and if were staying at Portofino. Don't wanna wait for a boat, have a dinner reservation need to get somewhere quick. That kinda thing. My husband and son are big guys so $10 would be good for us from the parks to portofino.

Sometimes they aren't allowed to ride through CW so the paths must be used.

I'm guessing the combined weight of my 2 girls and I was about 350lbs...

There was a bit of huffin and puffin going on when he was working so it wasn't a completely easy ride. I think $5 would have been ok looking back but it was a little awkward so I gave 10 to be safe.

I agree for your ride $5 would be good! You made up for a few of the under tippers. :)

Call me a high roller, but when we used the RICKSHAWS we tipped $20.They do work on a %of the tip you pay them.

We got a high roller here! :rotfl:

If I had the money to spend I'm sure $20 would have been a nice gesture. They only get paid in those tips so they appreciate it greatly.

I think your $10 was perfect (that's what we do). The way I look at it is.... If I don't want to walk and don't want to wait for the boat, the Rickshaws are a convenience I'm happy to pay for. Put yourself in the drivers shoes.... would you want to peddle back and forth with a considerable amount of weight behind you for less than $5? Heck no!!

Most of these guys (and girls) are extremely personable and simply trying to work their way through college. And not only do they ONLY work for tips, they also have to pay to rent the bike (between $25 and $75/night) depending on special events, etc - so they have to make at least that just to breka even!

How much does the ride itself cost? I would probably go with $5

I'd like to know the cost, too. I agree that somewhere between $5 and $10 seems good.

It's free....they work on tips only

Yes, it's free. The only cost is the tip. Once you sit down there is a message right in front of you telling you that the only money these people get are from tips.

Ten bucks is a ridiculous amount to pay to avoid a ten minute walk or waiting ten minutes for a free boat ride.

For you it may be. We have been in situations where $10 was well worth it!

If you were in my situation you may have thought differently. Still I think $5 would have been a good tip.

There is no "situation". The free boat is less of a walk.

There are many situations. The boats dont run in bad weather and sometimes they are so busy you may have to wait at least 20 minutes for a boat. 20 minutes you may not have.

My son in December had a medical emergency. My husband had to quickly get back to Portofino to grab his medical card - bike came in very handy that day.
