Another thread made me wonder.......how many miles [on average] do you think you walk a day when you visit DCA and DLR?

Last year I wore a pedometer. I was at the parks when they opened and near closed them every night. Anyway I walked on average 10 miles a day.

There was a thread about this a long time ago, where people actually had facts and figures to share about how many miles were walked in an average day at DLR. Of course, I suppose it largely has to do with what your plans are, or what your personal DLR 'style' is (commando or leisurely strolling) and who you happen to be with. Someone had their pedometer with them and clocked it at over 9 miles on one day at DLR, and 12 miles the next day!!! Last year, my friend was wearing her pedometer, but hers did not record miles - it only recorded footsteps taken. So periodically she would announce how many footsteps she/we had taken, and at one point we were up to 15,000 but the day was not over yet. I think yet another DIS-er said that it is exactly one-half mile walking from the DLH to the gates of DL or DCA, and one-half mile back to DLH. So just getting to and from the DLH on foot is a mile! All that walking adds up fast, but it is so much more enjoyable than just getting out and walking 9 miles in my neighborhood, so it doesn't SEEM like it is that bad while I am at DLR!!

maybe a mile? I have to use my wheel chair ( scooter ) at the parks now. walking is to difficult any more. I would give anything to walk 10 miles now :)

Holy smokes. 10 miles!? I believe it but wow. I guess I walked off the corn dog from DCA last summer. Good idea about the pedometer. I'm doing that for my next trip for sure.

When we were there last April, I wore a pedometer and was over 15,000 steps every day. One day, it was more than 20,000. The surprising thing was that my feet didn't hurt every night.:rotfl2:

We figured we walked over the average of 10 miles with our walk back to our hotel.

It really doesn't feel like it!

I gained like 3 lbs tho..IT'S MUSCLE RIGHT?

I would agree with the other posters....about 10 miles sounds right. I am basing that on the fact that when I golf, it's usually about 4 miles when I do 18 holes. My feet are WAY more tired after a full day at DL than golfing. Needless to say, unless you just stay in one or two lands all day, which I can't imagine anyone would do, you will walk quite a bit. Good exercise to burn off the calories of all the treats you eat during the day :)

You walk a LOT at DL. Our hotel was far away last time and we walked the entire trip, so just going back and forth between hotels (with mid-afternoon break and all) we did almost 5 miles just to get to DL and back. In the resort itself, I could easily say we tacked on another several miles.

It's one of the secret benefits-- you're at DL but you probably burn more calories walking around than you do sitting in the office in a week :lmao:.

Like the other PP's have said, my sister and I used mapmyrun.com to figure out approximately how many miles we did. Between the walk to the park, walking around DL and DCA for three days, walking back to the hotel for an afternoon nap, walking back to the parks at night, then walking back to the hotel, we calculated that we did about 25-30 miles in those three days. Our legs and feet were DESTROYED. We could hardly get out of bed on the third day. We went complete commando style and it was a first trip to DL for my sister (my first in 20 years) so I tackled everything that I'd read on here without really knowing what I was getting into. It took days to recover, but it was so worth it!

I have clocked it with pedometers on many occasion and I clocked between 10-12 miles per day. This being with a group of all adults over the age of 20, and staying at the tropicana or the Howard Johnson very close off site hotels.

We wore a pedometer one trip and we averaged around 7 miles each day for 3 days. We don't go commando style through the parks, but we keep a steady pace, resting ever so often to just enjoy the surroundings.

I think I walk around 50 miles, but I bet I'm wrong! :rotfl:

Do you guys think that the rides can throw off the pedometers? I'm just wondering, because it does seem motion can set them off. I have no doubt people are walking 10-12 k in the parks on an average day, though. I'm sure we walked around that much, too. Sometimes we'd be in California Adventure Park, and then go to Disneyland, then back again, etc. Or, we'd be on one end of DL, decide to go on a ride at the other end, and walk over there. I'm sure all of you do that too, though, it's all part of the fun. :woohoo:

We have worn a pedometer on three different trips. We have walked anywhere from 8 - 14 miles a day!

I tell you on the 14 miles days you can really feel it walking back to the hotel.

The great thing is you can pretty much eat anything you want in the parks with that much exercise.

Yep. The Universe stretches and warps and the easy walk from the hotel in the morning is at least twice as far at night when you go back. ;)

Well, now, that would explain why my legs are always so darn exhausted after DL! Ah, well. It's a GOOD kind of tired, right? :thumbsup2 I should try to bring a pedometer next time. I agree with the rides, though. I think especially jerky rides, like Indy, may tack on a few extra steps.

That may be true of some cheaper pedometers, but mine is really accurate. It only measures the actual swinging motion of walking. It isn't like the cheaper versions that you can literally bounce up and down and make it count steps. This particular model is very reliable (even highly rated by Consumer Reports). The brand is Omron and it can even be put in your pocket or purse. Probably way too much information....but just wanted to clarify.

Last year, my husband & I walked over 12,000 steps (Oprah would've been proud). Starting tomorrow on our arrival at DL, we're going to do our best & get our 12,000+plus (providing my DH's back doesn't act up):yay::cool1::hug:
