How much do you spend on a typical trip?

Meaning "all-in" what do you typically spend for accommodations, airfare, food, tickets, sending money, car rental, etc.?

Oh and how long do you typically stay? What is your party size?

In 2007 we stayed for a week onsite (deluxe) and spent approx. $6500 CDN.
In 2008 we stayed for 12 nights offsite (WH) and spent approx. $5500 CDN.

We're a party of 4.

There are 5 of us and we usually stay 7 nights.

We have spent anywhere between 3-10 grand. I usually buy AP's so if it is the trip I don't need passes then it is cheaper.

We have also had 2 free dining trips that really helps out.

The year we spent 10 we went all out at AKL and alot of extras..like surfing lessons for the kids.

Our week long adventures now are approx $1,500.00 but that is staying at DVC on points..... but years ago when we would go at Christmas time with my wife and 2 children and spend 1 week at the WL, and the 2'nd week at Fort Lauderdale it would cost me approx $10-$11,000 each visit, but that was when the dollar was at $0.65

Some loose examples of what we spend:

Offsite for approx 2 weeks in a villa: $8,000 to $10,000 total. We also go to Universal or Aquatica or SeaWorld or various other places when staying offsite.

Onsite with free dining (2x) for 10 days: between $4,000 and $5,000.

Offsite or onsite we always rent a vehicle and also always shop at the outlets or malls.

We've been to Florida at least 10 times in the past 15 years. A couple of times without going to Disney. We still managed to spend the same amount of money.

We are taking a break from Florida this spring and going to the Grand Canyon/California instead.

Our family of 4 has gone the last 5 years in a row and even though we have bounced between free dining, onsite, home rentals offsite, Universal instead of WDW.....it always end up at around 5K - 6K flights included.

We always go more than a week - a week is not enough to do Disney given it is 4 parks (plus waterparks) and we like a few days off to relax so we usually do min 10 days - 2 weeks.

KNowing this, I think we will finally try an all inclusive on an island next year which will also be around 6K!

Our first total Disney trip, in 2005, we spent approx $5000. We were there for a dance competition and had to stay with the group at CSR. We stayed 9 nights and rented a car. We were 2 adults, 1 -15yo and 1 -6yo.

In Feb 2007 I took just my youngest DD for a last minute trip. We stayed 5 nights at ASMo, got the AAA rate and used my airmiles for park passes. That trip only cost $1200.

In August 2007 all four of us went for 8 nights to POFQ during free dining. We drove to FL and only bought the 1 day park pass that was required and added the WP&M. Total cost was $2700.

In July 2008 we had another dance competition. All four of us again and this time we stayed 14 nights at POP. We got half price park tickets through the competition and got the AAA rate for the room. Again we drove to FL. Total for this trip was $4400 which included our dance fees and expenses.

This Sept.09: Dbf and I again for 8 nights. Free dining which includes, hotel (POP), food, park tickets for 1600 cdn. then flight out of detroit 500cdn. Various tours/shopping we are going to estimate 3000.

Am i doing something wrong?

We went in January this year and here is our cost breakdown:

7 days, 6 nights at POR
Basic Dining Plan (one CS, one TS, one snack per person per day)
6-day basic theme park tickets (no waterpark or hopper options)
Cancellation Insurance
All booked under the 4/3 promo - $2100 USD

Sunwing flight from Toronto - $1073 CDN

Out-of-pocket expenses (souvenirs, breakfasts at the food court, one extra character meal over and above the dining plan allotments, adult beverages by the pool , etc.) - $550 USD (but we had the $200 gift card, so we were only out of pocket $350 USD)

Tips (dining and mousekeeping): $150 USD approx.

Out of country medical insurance - $54 CDN

Plus we had hotel accomodations in Toronto the night prior to our flight (included parking for one week)....add in another $125 CDN, tax incl.

We were travelling with 2 adults and a teenager.

It was a magical trip . Worth every penny we spent.

What makes you think that you are doing something wrong?

It depends where you stay (onsite, offsite, value, moderate, deluxe), if you fly (and where from), how much money you spend on shopping, food, car (what type), where you go (Florida is not JUST DisneyWorld for some) etc. It also depends how many people are in your party.

If you went in September, why didn't you add the free dining plan?

Do you buy souvenirs? How much do you tip? Do you stay at a hotel the night before you fly out?

Everyone's standards on their vacation vary greatly. There is no right or wrong price.

You can spend as much or as little as you like on a vacation.

In Nov.2007 we went on our first disney cruise and did the eastern 7 day itinery. The cruise total for our family DH,DD(6) and me was $2400.00 US dollars ($2800) with exchnge at the time. Airfare out of Buffalo on Southwest was $ 675.00 US and we spent about $1000.00US for all other expenses. We figured it ended up costing $4100.00 Canadian all together.

In August 2008 we stayed at ASM for 6nights 7days with the free dining, park hoppers and waterpark and we estimated that all expenses in it cost $3000.00.

This year however we hope to do a week at POFQ followed by the double dip western itinery on the Magic and I figure with flight and expenses it will end up costing $8000.00 That is why we work though right! Well worth it in my opinion to create memories of a lifetime!

This year we did well money wise, enough so, that we think we can probably squeeze in another trip next year! We stayed 8 nights at Bonnet Creek, rented a timeshare from a owner. It was great. Also, my sister and her husband stayed with us, so we split some costs. We are a family of 4, me, 35, dh, 35, dd, 9, dd, 7. So here is my breakdown, taking advantage of alot different coupons, and travel points, off of credit card and so on.
Bonnet Creek split with sister, 3 bdrm: $360 for 8 nights
Car rental: $185
Disney Tickets for 2 days used my TD travel rewards points only paid $150
Sea World Tickets with Southwest discount @20%: $227.00 for 2 days
Airline tickets through Airtran, bought in May for Feb trip at par:$785 taxes and fees included.
Groceries for condo:$140.00
Soveniers and meals out: $650.00
Blue Man Group, with Orlando Magic Card for 4, $230
Total came to $2737.00
Which I will round up to $2800.00
So that isn't bad for 8 nights.
Last year we did more, cause the dollar was at par. We did 2 Disney parks, Universal 3 days, and Sea world 2 days.
We also rented a 4 bedroom house, for 8 nights last year for $900.00 cdn funds
We will see what next year will bring!

we try to go 2 or 3 times a year, it's just stella and i...usually runs about 1200-1300 for a week...we fly southwest out of buffalo(get a flight in the range of $130-140 us each) park with there with a coupon($45 a week in long term A)..rental car can be had in the $200 range for a midsize-fullsize(generally alamo with codes and coupons) last time paid $135 taxes in with budget(my personal car insurance covers rented vehicles as well so no extra expense there) last time in jan we stayed at pop with the 4 nights/3 nights free $200 gifcard deal but we're young and crazy so we're never in the room so we don't care(in april we booked a week at the comfort inn in LBV at $32 a night)...also booked one night a the hardrock at universal($140 a night with my season pass discount), we bought the 10 day non expiring hoppers 3 trips back so we still have 5 days left(don't use more than 2 or 3 days each trip) have universal passes(also sea world/busch) for 3 years now so they run $100 to renew each year with free parking so we spend alot of time in those parks as well...we have chosen to go more often and stay cheaply rather than having a crazy luxury trip(we both work for ourselves and can run off anytime)...also manage to eat a boma once or twice a trip along with chef mickey's and crystal palace(this time since the room is so cheap)..can be done for this much $$$ but like i said i'd rather be running the parks every couple of months than having a yearly mega trip...just wanted to post to show you a lower end example...plus the tickets/pass investment is only effective with this scenerio...

Last trip, May 2007. 7nights at CBR, 8 day pass with park hopper and waterparks, airfare, food(no dining plan) for a family of 4, approximately 4500. Going again in May 4/3 deal, 7 nights CBR, 8 day pass with park hopper, airfare,so far were up to 3000.

WOw, I can't believe how cheaply some are able to travel -- awesome! We have no choice but to travel during the March break so right off the bat I know we are going to pay more; we will be away a total of 9 nights. So far this is our breakdown (in USD unless otherwise noted):
Flights (from Syracuse) x 4 = $1560 (base fare was $305 return plus taxes and we paid extra for more leg room seats)
Off site @ WH = $854 for 7 nights ($699 + taxes and etc)
Car rental x 1 week $225 ($149 + taxes)
4 x 7-day non hopper passes = $971 Cdn (passes purchased in Canada@par)
4 x SPring Training Baseball tickets = $129
2 nights in SYracuse (one night each way -- didn't have to but this will make life a whole lot less tiring!) = $260, one night includes parking for the week and buffet brunch the next day.

Total: $4000 + food
and any souvenirs we might buy (don't usually go too nuts on that kind of stuff).
