How much do you spend on a classmate's B-Day gift?

My DS5 has been invited to a birthday party this weekend and I'm just not sure what is an appropriate amount to spend on the gift. I must add that the birthday is for twins so 2 gifts.

Also, any ideas what 5 year old girls might like?

I've always tried to stay around $15. I try to find something on sale that would normally be over that amount, but pay at or around my 'limit".

For twins, you might think of a game of some sort (Guess Who? comes to mind) as a joint gift. Something they can do together....

Jump ropes?

Hi!! I have 5 year old twins! I would get art stuff. It is affordable and girls LOVE it. Plus that way you can make it a "share" type gift. Crayons, markers, finger paint, stickers, coloring books, paper, anything like that. I know my DD really loves those mosaic type art things. Where you stick these little jewels on a design. You can get affordable ones for about $6.

As far as a gift goes I usually spend $14 on my kids' friends birthday gifts and if the twins are invited I do buy a gift from each of them for about $14 each. However, being a parent of twins, I would never expect someone to spend $28 on them. I think if you spent about $20 that would be plenty fair. If you do the craft stuff you can get quite a bit for that much money and may be able to get away with even less because little things like stickers, paper, glue and markers always looks like a lot because the stuff is so affordable. I have even seen cute jars with feathers and goggly eyes and stuff in them for crafts. Those would be so fun for 5 year olds too! HTH and have fun at the party!

For a classmate I usually like to keep it around 10-15. I have never been to a party for Twins so I do not know how that works. I always ask the parent what things the child likes when I RSVP. But a 5 yoa girl will most likely like Barbie, princess stuff, arts & craft kits. Hope this helps.

$10-$15
Try art set, craft set, board game, Barbie or Squinkies.

I keep it around $20, we are pretty savvy shoppers so we can get some pretty nice stuff for $20 :)

I started at $15 but went up to $20 when we had my DD6's a year ago and she got some very nice things that seemed to be in around the $20 range. For a 5 year old girl, I would suggest art kits-- there are some really nice ones you can get at Target, decorating a purse, or making your own jewelry-- my daughter would flip over that. Then maybe a few hair accessories to go with it. Any mom of daughters knows you can never have enough hair accessories, as they are ALWAYS losing them!

$20 for classmates, and I send either 2 gifts or a $40 gift when my twins are invited. Art stuff is always good. These days, I just keep a stock of $20 Target gift cards on hand.

This is what we do too.

My boys have received everything from separate gifts about $8-25ea to shared gifts of about $20-$60. Sometimes they'll get one "big gift" and separate "little" gifts each wrapped. There most memorable at about age 5 or 6 was from the twins girls their same age across our street - craft stuff, all individually wrapped, then put in one HUGE box and wrapped (with 3 different colors of paper!). My boys STILL talk about that (they're 9).

My only suggestion would be if you do a card with cash or a gift card, do 2. That has been the only time we've had conflict - a shared card with one giftcard.

$10-$15. At that age, my standard gift was an arts & crafts kit of some sort.

I bought a bunch of nail polish sets and Squinkies on clearance after Christmas for $2.50 a piece. They were all originally in the $10-$15 price range. I bought several and am letting DD pick her friends out one as she's invited.

DD is 6 and we spend between $15-$20. We usually try to get arts & crafts sets as well.

I would say around $20. I have 6 yo triplets and wouldn't expect anyone to give such value to each of my kids. A collective gift or a smaller gift each is what people usually do for our girls. My girls love to have art stuff and lately have been big into bracelet making.

I kinda stay away from makeup when it comes to gifts. Lots of parents around here don't like their little girl to have makeup or nail polish at that age.

My dd gets invited to a lot of birthday parties from her daycare. We do around $20. I think as a rule of thumb the gift should cost more than the birthday party does per child. I have a five year dd and some great gifts were arts and crafts supplies, gift certificates for local venues such as Sweet Frog (not sure if they have that in your area) or perhaps Build a Bear, My Little Ponies, Barbies, anything princess and games.
