how much do you leave Mousekeeping?

that's the policy my family has also. It is a difficult job and I think any extra money they make is very welcome

I am sure she wishes she was getting tipped more than they actually are! They make less than 8.00 per hour and earn every cent of it. As for the IRS, I couldn't say if she is reporting it or not. I assume so.

Hearing the wage makes me glad that I try to tip. It is not unusual for me to forget. My kids loved the cute things that the housekeepers did with their stuffed animals when we were at the park.

She really enjoys doing special things for the kids in the rooms. She continues to work in housekeeping because the work hours allow her to go to school full time in the evening. The bottom line is, some people tip and some don't. It is all personal preference. Whatever the amount, they really do appreciate it.

I agree with you. I have been an RN for 24 yrs and believe me--I have cleaned up ALOT of nasty stuff!! :-( Most patients these days can't even manage to throw used tissues in the trash can never mind other "messes". Not only do we not get tips (we dont expect any) but probably half the patients these days treat nurses as if we are their personal servant. I realize that my salary is much higher than housekeeping--but I also have a much greater responsibility keeping people alive. I make sure that we keep our room pretty tidy. They basically just have to exchange the used towels--the rest is already done by me. :-). Maybe a 5minute job.

LOL I'm an RN too. That's a good point. We do get treated pretty bad sometimes and it would make my job a lot better if every patient I had threw an extra $5 my way. I appreciate mousekeeping, but I truly view it as something I have already paid for.

I have heard that they are not allowed to keep the tips. The one time we did tip I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary than what they usually do (ex: towel animals, etc).

That is not true. One morning we didn't have any small bills so we left the room and on the way out to the parks we stopped by the desk and got change. They gave us a mousekeeping tip envelope to leave. It had a place for our room number so they could get it to the right staff member.

I leave $1.00 per person in the room.

We do $5 a day too. We usually stay 7-8 nites. We leave our room about 9am each day. So, we find the Mousekeeper & hand the money to her because we ask for our room to be cleaned early. That's why we want it to go to the Mousekeeper for that day. And we always do get our room cleaned early - nice because we return after lunch, cool off & rest a little, get cleaned up for the evening, & go out again.

I wish everyone would tip these hardworking people - assuming of course that good service is given. If you don't believe in tipping, think of it as a charitable contribution - probably most of us need to do that more often. And I'm sure it's greatly appreciated by those who do not make a living wage.

On our last trip, Mousekeeping set up my daughter's teddy bear as if he was holding the remote control, propped up in front of the TV. Things like that are just some of the little things Mousekeeping may do to sprinkle some pixie dust.
