how much do you leave Mousekeeping?

I don't leave them anything unless I've asked them to do something special or out of the ordinary for me. Housekeeping at Disney is not considered a tipped position. They are not taxed as a tipped position.

Even for people who do tip $5 for 2 people a day is high.

oh, I just assumed it was like a hotel. and I haven't been in one in a while so wasn't sure of the going rate

Following. I have never tipped at hotels before for housekeeping. Honestly if have never heard of it until I started planning to go to disney. I'm undecided on if we should tip or not in disney. Waiting to see other responses

I have heard that they are not allowed to keep the tips. The one time we did tip I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary than what they usually do (ex: towel animals, etc).

I've always tipped housekeeping...they're providing a service for you and they don't get paid much. I tip 3 to 4 dollars. If the room is messy I leave 5.

Yes they are . Idk where you got that info from . Last year when my ds threw up everywhere we gave the housekeeper $10 extra for cleaning the sheets /floor etc. Sometimes we'd be leaving while the housekeeper was walking in and we'd just hand her the $5.00.

We tip $5 per day for a family of 5.

We usually get some sort of creation made with the kids stuffed animals, which of course they just love. Or at least some type of nicer towel animal.

I read it on a Facebook thread posted by a CM :confused3
Just because she accepted it doesn't mean its policy. And I don't blame you for tipping for that mess. :laundy:
I don't see why one would tip at Disney if they don't at other hotels.

I've never tipped at WDW. We still got cute towel animals in all sorts of configurations around the room.

Housekeeping at WDW is a non-tipped position. Yes, if they receive tips they can keep them, but I believe they make anywhere from $9-$12 an hour.

I always tip Housekeeping even at non-disney hotels. We usually do $3/day (family of 4) and $5 on check out day for a normal hotel room. When we stay DVC I usually do $5 on Trash and Towel Day and $8 for check out in a One Bedroom and $7 and $10 for a 2 Bedroom.

They are absolutely allowed to keep the tips. In fact, many depend on it since they don't get paid much. You should also see the stuff they take from the rooms that is left behind at checkout (especially in DVC villas). They are allowed to keep anything food that is unopened, toiletries and balloons. Our room at BLT was right above the tunnel where they would leave for the day and it was amazing to see what they carried out. We even asked a cast member working the little concierge desk and he told us all about it. He said they get asked that question a lot because of all those rooms right above that tunnel. It was actually kind of entertaining to sit out on the balcony at 4pm everyday and check out the loot (we have a little one who naps at that time). I know when we stayed at Windsor Hills they had a box in the lobby of each tower to donate any unopened food (I couldn't believe how much was in that box) but I have never seen anything like that at Disney.

To summarize --- this will end up with the following ---

Some tip....some dont....some say it's a tipped position and some say it isnt....some say if you cant afford a tip, just stay home and you're cheap if you dont tip.

Do what you want....there is no right / wrong answer.....I'm sure it's appreciated, but there is nothing wrong with not doing it either.

I generally don't.

TECHNICALLY it isn't a tipped position (if you call Disney and ask). Of course, you are free to tip if you want to.

I really don't care if anybody tips or not but pay for Housekeepers at Disney is about equal for non-skilled labor for all jobs at Disney. They seem to start at about $8.70 an hour and probably earn every penny in wages and tips they receive.

I'm just always a little curious as to why people tip Housekeeping because of the low pay, but they don't tip that Dude who hands you the 3D glasses at the Muppet show. He's likely not making much either.

To answer the OP, I generally don't tip housekeeping in any hotel unless we've caused some sort of mess outside the typical room cleaning tasks. When the kids were little, that happened often.
