How much do people REALLY eat?

Just curious, but how much have you ever eaten at one sitting? I' ve heard that you can order as much as you want. What is the most you've ever ordered? I couldn't make up my mind which dessert I wanted at AP so I ordered two. I'm sure there are others who have also splurged on their diet while cruising! I'd love to hear the stories!

We each ordered 2 desserts at Palo's. A man at the next table ordered several entrees and desserts but was falling asleep at the table while eating from too much drinking and was quietly asked to leave!

My husband will probably kill me if he ever finds out that I told on him but what the heck! He didn't ever really order THAT much its just that after about day two our server caught onto the fact that he is a big eater. Well, Raj started bringing out extras for my husband because I think they try to have you leave feeling well fed. Well an extra appetizer came out and when my husband polished that off without batting an eye, the next night an extra appetizer and seconds on the entree emerged and so on. You get the idea. Raj is my husbands favorite person! I think on lobster night my husband had steak and lobster plus seconds on the lobster. My only regret is that I can't eat as much as my husband when I'm on the cruise.

I'm actually a little depressed when it comes to how much I'll be able to eat on the cruise. I adore all aspects of food. Well, my waistline reflected. Last year I had gastric bypass surgery and now I can only eat small amounts.

I'm *really* going to have to pace myself and just take one or two bites of each dish if I want to be able to taste everything!

Okay, I LOVE food. I love new and different tastes.

Last year on the cruise I was pregnant and eating PLENTY. Our wonderful server would bring me out two appetizers (just so I could at least taste both of them) and sometimes even an extra dinner entree to try (not that I ate all of them both) I even had more than one dessert most nights (just so I could try them both) We ate plenty at our table. Even my DD (who had just turned 10) was eating a lot. Our server would cut up her steak or whatever she was eating and feed it to her! It was SO cute--I even took pictures of that!

So, don't feel like you are a *pig* if you are having a few different appetizers or meals. I think it happens quite regularly.

I will tell on hubby...he always embarrasses me with the amount of shrimp he eats on the embarkation buffet! This time he finally got his fill tho'. We saw one of our former head waiters, Kapoor, who said he would bring Tony a dish of shrimp--even tho' he wasn't our head waiter this time, he took good care of us whenever he saw us. Well, he sure did...a HUGE portion! And hubby ate every bit! But after that, at the next embarkation buffet, I noticed that he took a smaller portion than usual...I guess he had finally eaten his fill with that enormous bowl. He likes to order a regular entree and a small portion of a second one quite frequently at dinner (I'll confess that I like to do that too). But after three cruises in a row with so much rich food, towards the end of the trip I was ordering off the kids menu. :D

On our cruise in Aug. we didn't really eat that much. We would order two or three appetizers, but it was for 5. One night, we ordered one of every dessert that was offered and we all took bites of all of them. I think we left more than we ate. We never partook of the late night buffets, because our dinner seating was the late one, so we were always still full from dinner.

I think it is nice that the portion sizes are reasonable - not gigantic like at WDW. I didn't feel "piggy" ordering extra appetizers or entrees, even the night I ate four appetizers (but no entree). I loved the fact that I got to try a lot of different things.

Too much!!!! But what a way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last cruise DW and myself were seated at the 'big' table with 6 other couples. It was everyone elses 1st cruise. I ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees each night. Finally be the fourth night everyone else caught on and began ordering what they wanted. Some weren't aware you could order more than 1.

Well, we don't really overeat, but we have ordered two dessertsd if there were two things we wanted to try. Same with the Appitizers. Never done it with the Entrees though.

On our last cruise, we sailed with my best friend and her husband. The guys LOVED the scallops that they had in one of the restaurants (although I can't remember which.) They BOTH asked for another serving. The Server happily complied and then they spent the rest of the dinner lamenting the fact that they should have skipped the meal and just had more scallops. The Server brought them out a HUGE bowl of scallops and they were like two kids in a candy store. There must have been 40 scallops in that bowl! They both were pretty full, but very happy.

I pulled off the biggest coup in Cruising on that cruise! I am a diabetic and I was a very, very bad girl on that trip. I didn't eat the sugar free desserts (then again I usually don't because sugar free doesn't mean carb free! But that is a different story), I had sugary fru fru drinks like Pinya Coladas, and I didn't exercise TOO much. Not only did my sugar oddly stay in decent control, but I actually LOST 8 pounds on that vacation. I still marvel at how that happened. I did do a few laps around deck four on a few occasions, but not really a lot! I guess the Disney "Magic" was really with me!

I ordered 2 appetizers one night. and 2 desserts a different night. I still get a little embarassed ordering 2 of something, but figured my Hubby never ordered an app or dessert so I might as well.:)

you won't believe this, but we never ordered desert at dinner..
we were so stuffed from the meal there was no way we could manage even a spoonful of desert...
on the other hand there was breakfast...
we ate at tritons.....each breakfast my husband ordered:
an order of cold cereal, two orders of bagels lox and cream cheese, an order of eggs.....i think that was it..
each of my teenage kids ordered for breakfast each morning:
an order of cold cereal, an order of bagel lox and cream cheese, an order of pancakes (or was it mickey waffles, i can't remember).....i think that's it..
(all i had was yogurt.....and of course, they're all skinny as sticks and i'm porky pig......god's sense of humor)....

The first night on my first ever cruise (Carnival - 1991) they brought out the menu, I looked it over, and said "That will do nicely"
They brought everything. I ordered seconds on some things and finished my wife's dessert.
After that, the meals were a blur.

Barb,
So you can order a regular size entree and then ask for another entree but a smaller portion? That sounds like something I would do since I know I probably couldn't eat all of both but would like to at least sample a variety of foods. OR maybe even two small portions of two entrees? I don't like to waste food. I guess mom made me feel guilty if I didn't get the clean plate award at dinnertime!:)

My DH often ordered a "regular" entree, then another to sample. Regretfully they would bring an entire other meal, not just the entree portion. So yes, some did go to waste. The husband of our tablemates often did the same.

Ivana would often bring out appetizers for us to sample, even if we hadn't ordered them, because she thought we would enjoy them.

There were times that he couldn't decide on dessert, so they brought him both.

They are just too eager to please. One night Maclean, our head server stopped by as we were eating dessert, and noticed DS hadn't ordered anything. He asked why, and DS said there was nothing that interested him. Maclean asked what he would like, and DS answered "whipped cream". Moments later he was back with a heaping bowl of nothing but whipped cream. DS was in heaven!

After the first couple days I was pretty sick of the rich foods, and one night ordered a plain chicken breast with rice and steamed broccoli. It really hit the spot.

All in all I gained about five pounds.

My DS17 loves the Parrot Cay jerked spiced wings that have at dinner one of the nights. On our previous cruises he always kept asking for another portion of them so this cruise he smartened up and asked the waiter upfront to just bring him a platter full. Our waiter happily obliged:

As you can see, he actually has three appetizers in front of him. He polished them all off.
