We got married in January 1995.

What was something blue.. something borrowed.. and something new?.. and I forgot to add.. something old?

New was my gown, old and borrowed was my grandmother's wedding pearls, blue was my garter.

Well, I voted for under $5k. It was much under that. That's the advantage of getting married in a country during their economic crisis and they can't keep raising the prices fast enough to keep up with their falling currency value.

Was it a large wedding? Intimate? Aproximately how many attended?
Very small. About 14 of our friends. None of our family could make the trip.

Was it at church, chapel, beach, backyard, ship or disney?
It was on the cliffs of Bali, Indonesia overlooking the Indian Ocean in the gazebo of our villa at the Ritz Carlton. (Hence the reason our families couldn't make it there)

buffet or full serve?
sit down dinner and all the drinks you could drink (lots of champagne).

yes...pretty ones.

wedding gown?
yes...a pretty one
(actually, my wife had it made in Jakarta by one of our friends who was an up and coming Asian designer. It was her first wedding dress, so she charged us only $150. We checked back with her and she now charges $3-$5k for her most basic wedding dresses off the rack. My wife also had her shoes made for $50 and I had my tux made for $100. Still have everything to this day.)

cake?
yes...yummy one.

photographer?
yes and our friends were our videographer with our camcorder.

This ended up being the first of 3 weddings. My DW and I are from different countries, so none of our friends and family could make it to each venue, so we decided to do it 3 times. First and official was Bali, Indonesia, b/c that is were we met and were living (actually Jakarta). Next was Sweden with my DW's family and friends (my parents and brother made it over). Finally a reception in the states with my relatives and friends. Our parents paid for each of the other events, we just paid for the Bali one.

We had trip to Turkey booked ten years ago and we deceided a month before we went to get married if the local registry office could fit us in on the day of our departure, and they could.

Total cost for the wedding (at current exchange rates) £100 or $179

Wedding - Registry Office £25

Car for the Misses provided by friend - Free

Bus into town for the boys - Free (told the bus driver we were trying to make the wedding as cheap as possible, so he let us on for nothing).

Buffet - £75 at the Waggon and Horses pub, which is just around the corner from the Registry Office. Buffet was meant to be £80, but told him I wanted to make the wedding cost no more than £100, so he knocked us a fiver off.

Photography - Free. Mate of mine a photographer

The day was great. Hot and sunny weather and all our friends and family in the pub singing and drinking. Still married ten years on and wouldn't change a thing.

10/15/05 (see pic in my sig! :) ) and it was about $12,000 Includes flowers, photo/video, wedding clothing, favors, DJ, ceramony and reception for 100 - including a cocktail hour with hot/cold/seafood hor douvres and open bar, a 5 course sit down dinner with choice of entre and open bar after dinner, the wedding cake, and a desert table with chocolate fountain.

And yes, something old, new, borrowed, and blue, with a six pence in my shoe (friend actually found me a real six-pence!)

The honeymoon was about $3500.

Wedding, including dress, and everything was $10,000 exactly. Honeymoon was extra, and we paid for that ourselves. My Dad gave me a $10,000 budget and I spent it right up to the penny almost. I spent like this:
Things that were important to me- I did not skimp on...venue,food,open-bar,live band, dress (I went all the way here), cake, invitations.
Things I didn't think anyone would really care about, I skimped on to stay under budget, photography, flowers, no limo, I used amateurs on all of these and was happy with what I got for the money.

flowers?I totally skimped here - I'm not huge on flowers, so I had minimal flowers as center pieces , a nice bouquet, a friend who does flower arranging di them for me. wedding gown?drop dead gorgeous silk ball gown - my mom made my veil.
cake? Yum, I didn't skimp here, it ws beautiful and cover in live flowers, 1 layer of lemon pound, one layer of chocolate mousse, one layer of carrot cake.

photographer? I skimped here too....at the time I got married (15 yrs ago, the style was to have lots of natural live action shots...i didn't have alot of portraits done (I'm sorry about this now) but I used an amateur photographer that did it cheap and did a good job, and she gave me all the negatives of everything.
How long ago?15 yrs - (where did that time go?)
What was something blue.. something borrowed.. and something new?.. and I forgot to add.. something old? Blue- (underwear) old - I can't remember ! - wow, I have to think about that. - borrowed, my earrings new - dress. oh! and I had a penny from my birth year in my shoe too!

of course, if I had it all to do over again, I would have had a dinner at a nice restaurant with my immediate family, and I would have used the money to put as a down-payment on a house :) hind-sight.

Cost/Size:
Well, the average wedding is SUPPOSED to cost $15K, but according to the poll. most were under $5K, weird. Mine cost about $15K (maybe a little under). If we're counting the honeymoon then a couple thousand over $15K - but that was inheretance money so I don't really count that.
We had a little over 200 guests.

Anyway I got married in Houma, Louisiana in a Catholic Cathedral in December 2005. It was freakin beautiful, with all brass playing my music from the loft. I had a pretty white wedding dress, the kind that gathers in different places. At the time I thought that dress was so unique - that's why I got it, and it was really was at the time - but now I see this style EVERYWHERE! So, so much for my unique idea.
My bridesmaids wore a deep chocolate brown.

My floral arrangements consisted of chocolate roses and coffee bean, with green leaves and spray. I highly reccommend the coffee bean for fall or winter weddings, they are cheap and make quite an impression.

It was a night wedding starting at 6:30, with the reception ending at 12am. The reception was at a local all-inclusive event hall called The Cypress Columns. The food was fantastic, as was the atmostphere. It was buffet style gourmet and also an open bar all night which served basically anything.

We didn't even have to decorate really, but my dad made a backdrop for the cake, with lamposts. It was a New Orleans theme, which I had decided on before Katrina hit, so that was a coincidence.

I didn't have a live band, but instead a DJ. That would probably be one thing I would change, as I know someone who has a great cover band now so I wish I would have known then :(

We honeymooned in Disney of course! And it was my DH's first time. We had so much fun we are going back this year at the same time!

I really don't know what the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue was....I didn't really think about that. Oh well.

My photographer is a local photojournalist who mainly specializes in New Orleans weddings but lives in Houma, so does those too. He did a great job, capturing more action and interesting shots than most wedding photographers. I didn't have a videographer because I just hate making videos! Haha! :rotfl:

Oh yeah and my cake was hexagonal stacked. Chocolate cake with white icing, monogram topper. Surprised my husband with a poker inspired groom's cake that I designed myself (had the baker make it though)!

Three unique/cool things I did for my wedding:
*Instead of glass wine flutes for the wedding party, I had pewter, engraved beer mugs for the guys and metal martini glasses for the girls.
*For centerpieces I used different styles of hurricane lamps/oil lamps and the florist put greenery and coffee bean around the base. (I was having a hard time deciding what to do for centerpieces and my Dad, of all people, suggested this. He got the idea when he was looking at antiques).
*Instead of those cheapy cake charms that they sell in all the stores, I went to a website that sells sterling silver charms for $1 each. I found many charms that were New Orleans/Louisiana themed and bought enough for all the single girls at the reception. (I saw the same charms being sold in the French Market for $20 A PIECE!!! I got mine for $1 each!!!)

My father also gave me a $10,000 budget. The reception hall double booked (I was SO upset) and to compensate us for changing the time they offered us wine and beer served free, $ off per head, and additions to the coctail hour like a mimosa fountain. :woohoo: I ended up spending $1000 under budget, which my dad gave us for the honeymoon.

We were married in 1990.

The wedding was at a church and the reception was at a country club. There were about 85 people and it was really beautiful! We had station buffets (roast, stir fry, pasta and salad) and a DJ. The photographer was a friend of my mother and we used a bridesmaid's sister's flower shop. Still, I budgeted over $750 on flowers and had orchids and roses everywhere. My dress was off the rack, discontinued designer (Bianche? for those in the fashion know. I really don't know who that is :rotfl: but I loved my $500 dress. I think my mom spent almost that much again to have it 'heirloomed' )

I'm amazed at how much weddings cost now. My sister is hoping to get married soon ;) and is already worring about how much it will cost.
