Dd went to see an orthodontist yesterday. She was stunned by how perfect her alignment is. The only issue is an small 3mm open bite. They suggested braces, top and bottom to pull lower jaw out, upper teeth in....about 16 months. They gave us a price though for 18-24 months... of $4200(the basic braces with the rubber bands) Just trying to get a feel for what most people are paying as I have no clue. thanks

$5500 for 24 months of braces. But her smile is so much better. Worth every penny

I've got one in braces right now, he needed help. The other just went earlier this month. His teeth are in the correct spots, but need "tweaking." His top front rest on his lower front, will eventually grind down and he would eventually (possibly) need root canals and crowns (eight teeth total). He was told he would need to be in braces from 12-18 months for a total of $3985. He will need to have at least one wisdom removed and will have to "luxate" his molar that is right next to it. Our insurance will cover $1000 of that and we will receive a family discount of $200. Also, if we pay in cash, we can receive an additional $140 off. This would make the total $2645--not including extraction and luxating. Not sure what this will cost.

DS braces cost $6800, top and bottom, and that was about eight years ago. He wore them for two plus years. Longer than two, but not quite three years.

I have 3 payments left on DD's Braces. $6500 for top and bottom braces. She had a palatal expander and mara appliance for awhile. We paid a little extra for ceramic braces on the upper teeth because we knew she would have the braces for awhile. Started everything January of 2009 and she still has probably 6 months to go. Then we go into retainers.

I hit the trifecta with my older DD; no cavities, perfect alignment, no wisdom teeth! Yay!

Younger DD is in braces. $5200 for upper clear, lower, appliances on lower, roughly 24 months, plus permanent retainers. My insurance is covering $1500, her father's insurance is covering $1500. OOP about $2200 and, like another poster said, worth every penny.

Prices varied between orthodontists in the same neighborhood. You could definitely tell which offices had high overhead. My DD is 17 and doesn't need video games or a Starbucks machines in the waiting room while she waits. I cared more about experience and education of the practitioner than anything else.

I'm wondering if these prices are the average with or without insurance? My DD needs braces (top & bottom) and my plan covers 50%. I have to make the appointment soon and don't want to get "sticker shock"!! :scared1:

$4500 total for everything for DS. He's about 13 months into it. 11 more to go. The results so far are amazing.

Our insurance pays $1000 per year toward orthodontics. So, our out of pocket was $2500.

My son and I got braces back to back with the same ortho and they were about $5500 each. I think $4500-$6000 is the normal range. Thankfully, most dental insurances now cover a portion of ortho.

DD is getting her braces off in about 2 weeks. has had them on for exactly 16 months. copst before insurance was $4600. Insurance covered $2000. this included her spacers, retainers, etc.

DD is very excited to have them off. not so excited about the retainers.

My son's braces (Top & Bottom) cost about $6,600 for 24 months. We are almost done YAY!!! Thank goodness for great insurance as they are picking it all up we just have to pay I believe $600 for one retainer when he's done. Insurance pays for one and we pay for the other. His teeth already look beautiful. Good Luck.:cool1:

P.S. When he's done I start with my youngest DS.

DD#1 $5,300 Senior in High School at that time
DD#2 $5,100 Eighth grade with palate expander

The cost is after insurance. Both only need them once. Watch out for that phase 1/phase 2 routine.

My son ( 12 ) had to start with a pallet expander and then the braces wich came to a total of $5642.50. Our doctor has in house financing and we did $1000.00 down and are currently paying $151.00 a month for 36 months. My Daughter ( 10) found out yesterday that she is going to have some work done as well. Upper partial braces for $2400.00.

$4600 for DS. Our insurance paid $1800 of that so we will pay $2800 total.

We've been told that our 9 year old DD will need braces as well and I am assuming it will be the same as DS's bill.

DD 12 has had her braces for 6 months now. She will wear them 24 months. Total cost was $5300, insurance paid all but $960.
