My mom, who lives alone and is 77, fell broke her wrist and hip. She is legally blind from macular degeneration and has emphysema. She was in the hospital for 10 days and just transferred to the nursing home for rehab. The heat really bothers her and she needs a/c. As soon as she got to her room and asked that the a/c be turned up, the woman in the other bed had a hissy fit. Said she wasnt turning up the air and would leave. She had my mother in tears and me in tears. The social worker agreed to move my mom to another room until they had some empty beds. I just don't understand why one person should have so much to handle. Plus, she lives just on social security of under $1,000. a month. Medicaid says she makes too much money, so in 20 days, healthy or not, she can be sent out of the rehab. It just stinks...................Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm so sorry for you and your Mom, hopefully things will look up for you both very soon. :( :(

Really sorry to hear that, mrsstats. :( I do hope things improve soon for your mom. My best and prayers for her, and you too. {{Hugs}}

mrsstats ~ I'm very sorry to hear of all your DM is going through. I know it doesn't seem fair to you.

Don't all Medicare recipients get 30 days of skilled nursing center stays after being discharged from a hospital though or does it depend what State you live in?

You're right about your Mom not qualifing for Medicaid since she makes "under $1000 a month" ~ my Mom qualified just under the wire for Medicaid & she made less than $500 per month! She had no money either.

I don't know if 20 or 30 days of rehab would be enough for her hip but she would probably qualify for some type of home P.T. once she was released from the Nursing home. Perhaps she would have to stay with you or another family member until she was able to do things for herself again. It won't be easy but you do what you have too.

My mom had cancer & she lived with us & I was her caregiver. She could have had an aide but she didn't want anyone but me to care for her. I did have nurses come in to take vitals & she did have homecare Physical therapy when she came home too weak from the hospital to do simple things (like walk to the bathroom.)

Good luck to you. I know how hard it is to see your Mom suffer. :(

It is a disgrace that a country with as many resources as ours does not make provisions for the elderly. I hope that all will turn out well for you. {{{HUGS}}}

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that your mom has had such a tough road. :(

I'll keep her in my prayers.

Oh gosh, I can just hear your frustration in your post. I'm so sorry that your mom (and you) are going through all this......

Gonna keep you both in my prayers as you struggle to find ways to deal with all those worrysome problems.

I am so sorry to hear all this :( Best wishes to your mom and yourself {{hugs}}

How frustrating it must be and how hopeless that you must feel. :( Hoping and praying that your Mom is feeling better and things work out regarding getting her to a more comfortable room.

Hugs to you, hang in there!

I'm sorry for you and your mom. My mom has a lot to deal with too and its really, really hard. Best wishes & prayers for you during this difficult time. I hope your mom has a speedy recovery and is able to stay in a room by herself for as long as she needs to be there.

I am so sorry you and your Mom are having to go through all of this. {{{HUGS}}}

Thanks for all your kind words. She gets 20 days in the nursing home. Yes, she can come stay with me when she gets out, but I live in a 4 room house. My husband & I both work full time. My sister also lives in a 4 room house with 2 kids. She works full time. My brother has a spare room for her but his household also works full time. We will do whatever we have to do for her to be okay, it just doesn't seem fair that we can't do more for the elderly.
