How much are postcards?

I'd love to do the paying it forward thing, but just want to make sure before I offer to send out a bunch of postcards that they don't cost $18 each or something ridiculous like that!

I've never been to Disney before, so please don't laugh that I am asking such a question. :confused3 ..all I know is everyone that I know keeps telling me how expensive everything is at Disney World!

LOL It's a good question!!!

At the stationary store in Downtown Disney I've found some for 50 cents and others for 3-4$. You can sometimes find packages of them too bringing your cost per card down slightly.

I send mine out from the same store as well. They seem to get to their destination quicker and if I'm not mistaken they have a Disney postmark.

Sometimes I find fun stickers to add to the post cards if I'm feeling especially rich that week. :sunny:

We just got back from our first trip to Disney - we bought postcards at a Souvenior Store for 3/$1.00 and I saw them at Walmart for $0.48 - so you can get them pretty cheap.

You can buy both. Postcards can be expensive, and don't have the price on them or the display. I expressed my surprise at $2.00 for a regular-sized rectangular card, and was told by the CM at the register that it was a high definition card. Huh :confused3 Postage was a real bargain - regular USPS prices. It must be illegal to mark up postage. Disney has to figure some way around this - special theme park exemption or something.

The regular postcards are around 60 cents at the resorts (we were there in March). There are special postcards that can range from $2-$4. They are the odd shaped ones, high-definition, special graphics, etc. I was pleasantly surprised that there are many of the less expensive ones to choose from. The best selection is at the main Disney store in DTD if you have a special character you are trying to find. We sent out several postcards to "pass it on". You ask for the stamps at the counter when you check out as they have them there. If you send them from the stationery store in DTD, they have the only official Disney postage machine (no stamps necessary) from what I've heard.

I unfortunately didn't find any cards in the 50 cent range during my stay. I paid about $2/piece. I had ordered Disney stamps online from the USPS before I went. All in all, I spent about $25 on my fairy godmailer cards. But for the people who sent a big thank you afterward...it was totally worth it.

They also have books of postcards with all different characters. They just have perforated (sp?) edges so you can rip them out when you want to use them. I do not remember how much they were but I think it was pretty reasonable. They are very colorful. I think they have them at the resorts and the parks.

I recommend visiting the Art of Disney store at Epcot for some REALLY cool postcards- they're so pretty- works of art! And I think they're $1-2. I have a couple framed!

"Regular" postcards at Disney are $0.60, but the ones that are metallic, shiney in any way, shaped (like Mickey, Minnie, the castle...oh and these are stickers too!) or move (the ones that you tilt and they change) are $2.00.
