how many...

We have about 7 in total, and probably every year or 18 months add a new one. We've never cancelled because the average time you've had them helps improve your credit score, so even if we don't use it it's still worth having it open.

Hello! I literally just booked one last pre-devaluation flight with Avios. My husband and I both got the card when they were offering 100k miles each a few years back and man have we gotten our money's worth! My husband is in Nashville now at the NHL all star game and while he's paying OOP for the hotel, he's getting breakfast and lounge access tonight free due to his Gold status with Marriott courtesy of the Ritz Carlton credit card!

I used the Companion pass last August to take my daughter (12) to London and Scotland (the add on to Edinburgh was 'free' because of the routing rules). As you know, you still have to pay the ridic BA fees bc the flights have to be on BA metal; that being said, we flew business class there (upper deck, great experience) and in first on the way back (Concorde room and all that) for 100k miles and less than $1800 in taxes. We used Marriott points for 5 nights at the County Hall Marriott (unbelievable location) and Hilton points for the hotel in Edinburgh, so I think I did pretty well all things considered! Love travelling for pennies on the dollar!

OH how wonderful! I didn't have any short haul flights pre devaluation that I could take advantage of. Yeah, I hate the taxes and fees on BA but I look at them as paying less than an economy ticket and using the miles to fly in 1st. Yesterday we snagged RT in first to Wyoming for our ABD trip this December for 100K miles each on United, transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards and $11.20 in taxes each :thumbsup2 Out of pocket would have been over $2300 in economy and over $4300 in first! We have the Marriott card but not the Ritz Carlton. I may have to look into the benefits of that one. We've been using mostly the Club Carlson card for hotel stays in Europe since they give you 40K anniversary points each year. We stayed at the Radisson Blu in Edinburgh for 3 nights on points and saved over $1000 and we've got 2 nights booked in Dublin this year on points saving well over $800. $75 annual fee and totally worth keeping the card. I really need to brush up on understanding routing rules. I've likely blown through miles I didn't have to. Then again, I barely know what I'm doing here. So far it's working though :-) Love doing the travel hacking thing. Best. Hobby. Ever.

Somewhat off topic, but DH and I have applied for a few cards for the miles/points and just each got the Alaska Airlines BOA card to to the $99 companion pass because we are going to Hawaii this summer.

Every credit card comes with so much paperwork. Do you guys keep everything? In the past, I've kept each credit card info in a separate folder in the file cabinet, but I'm thinking that might be overkill. I hate to throw it away though, if I shouldn't.

We have maybe 10, including store cards. We only use about half of them though. Our main go-to card right now is the AmEx Blue Cash, and we also carry the no-fee Disney Visa just in case we happen to shop somewhere that doesn't take AmEx. Then we have an Amazon MC that we only use for Amazon purchases. I've recently closed the premium Disney Visa (the rewards didn't outweigh the fee, imo) and a Chase Freedom card with a small limit, since Chase converted my old Amtrak Guest Rewards MC to a Freedom card and I don't need two of the same card.

I want to get into some travel hacking though. Nothing crazy since we'd need to make sure we can meet the minimum spends for bonuses, but I'd love to get a free hotel stay for a trip to PA this summer and free flights to Orlando for an April 2017 Disney trip.

I do. Each set of paperwork, T&C etc. is filed under the name of that credit card. If I keep the card it stays in the file. If I cancel the card, I throw out the paperwork and re-label the folder.
