I thought I saw a thread on this topic but couldn't find it, so sorry if its been posted already.

What kind of Christmas cookies are you making? I just started making my list of what to bake, and I have about 10 things, but I wanted to try some new recipes. I have the usual, sugar cookies cutouts, spritz, snickerdoodles, peanut butter balls, Greek powdered sugar cookies(forgot the name), cream wafers, and a few other new ones. Anyone else have any different cookies that they make?

Mom usually makes 3 dozen, or more, Frosting center (thumbprint) cookies as well as a few dozen Russian tea cakes.
Sister makes a few dozen Pfefferneuse cookies. The recepie came from Grandma and has taken Sis many years to get them to come out like Grandma's did! ;0)
Other Sister does pies and cobblers and I used to make 8 batches of English Toffee. Now I make two.
Now that the family has moved apart since last year (they all moved away) I will have to make my own cookies!!!!

I MUST bake Lemon Bars & Tom Thumbs (very small sandwich butter cookie). As a kid, I used to make Yule Logs (molasses cookie rolled in walnuts (but my brothers teased me because they looked like something else(!boys!) I also usually make the usual Christmas shapes (but I cheat & use a molded pan, instead of rolling them out). I am the cookie-baker in my family, so I get busy about 2 weeks before Christmas. (I'm having 28 people for T'Giving, so it's not easy to think of Christmas just yet!)

I only make my grandmother's shortbread - it is the best.

I don't have my list with me, but I think I'm making 16 kinds this year. Last year I took a break because we moved over the holidays...everyone was so disappointed.

The constants: sugar cookies, chocolate chips, fudge, 7-layer bars, russian teacakes, pralines, snickerdoodles, gingersnaps, and date bars

The rest of the list is ever-changing. Every once in a while a new type gets added to the "constants", but not often.

I really don't know why I do this to myself!

i haven't started making a list of what to make yet and it probably won't be that much this year b/c we are traveling a lot around the holidays.

we always make:

fudge, spritz cookies, sugar cutouts, gingerbread people

then i usually try out some new recipes too.

I always bake Russian teacakes (but call them little nut balls), butter cookies with my cookie press, lemon bars, thumbprints with assorted jellies (raspberry, blackberry, and apricot), Toll House (hubby has to have them!), cranberry-walnut swirls, checkerboards, and chocolate-pecan diamonds.

Here's a tip for everyone: Check out the Ladies Home Journal in December for the BEST cookie recipes. I have several years' issues saved, and now I see that some of the same ones are repeated every so often. Honestly, I have gotten excellent results from nearly every one of their Christmas cookie recipes.

BTW, this year's issue has my favorite recipes for lemon bars and chocolate-pecan diamonds. Very, very good!

I keep it down to three varieties:

Archway
Little Debbie
Keebler

:teeth:
I don't bake. :( My Mom makes delicious sugar cookies and fruit cake, though!
Pam

Hehehe.....some of us know about Pam and cooking ;)

I am a cookie baker!! Big time!
I bake cookies every week (sometimes several times a week).
I'm on "contract" with DH's workplace :teeth:

For Christmas I do 4 must-haves.........and then 10-12 other kinds that vary year by year. Probably 5 or 6 dozen of each. I fill the freezer and pull them out as company arrives or the kids come home. Also a lot go to both kids when they head back to school after break.

I make the required Christmas press cookies in holiday shapes, oatmeal cookies, Russian Teacakes, chocolate chip, chocolate-chocolate chip, Peanutbutter with the Hershey kiss, Kahlua cappucchino squares and whatever else strikes my fancy at the time.

:bounce::wave::bounce:

I make Russian Teacakes (anyone notice how many others make these too?), spritz, chocolate rum balls, berliner kranz, 7 layer bars, lemon bars, nut horns, and cream cheese crescents (1/2 dipped in chocolate).

I make too many but I give them to anyone who stops by the house like friends, my kids friends, relatives, neighbors--whoever.

I make:

Holly cookies
Shape Cookies
PB Blossoms
Wedding Cookies
Layer Bars
Buckeyes
Chocolate covered pretzels
Fudge
Chex Mix
Sugared Walnuts

Slice 'n' Bake. The kind with the green Christmas trees and the Rudolph in the middle.

We don't get very fancy . . .:o

Russian Teacakes
Peanut Butter Blossoms
Sugar Cookies
and usually Pizzelles

FIGMENTVI....

Can I come to your house????? Those cookies sound GREAT!.... then I looked at your location. PLLLLEEEAASE let me come to your house!!!! .......If not, want to share the last 5 recipes???? What are berliner kranz, and 7 layer bars?

We usually have:
pizelles
anise cookies
sugar cookies
peanut butter kiss cookies
my special chocolate chip cookies
some sort of refrigerator cookies
russian teacakes with vodka.
buckeyes

And I will probably make rum balls and eggnog snickerdoodles.

My sister and I get together every year and make traditional Scottish shortbread. My aunt gave sis and I a lesson in making it before she died. She said the secret to good shortbread is making sure the dough is "just right". The recipe was given to her by her grandmother (my great-grandmother) who grew up in Scotland. It says to mix the sugar and butter together and "add sifted flour until dough is right".

I like to think that Aunt Mary is standing with my sister and I during this holiday tradition; watching over us to make sure the dough is "just right".
:D

I bake sugar cookies that I frost. I usually bake about 6-8 dozen.
