How Many Villas Can I Book

Hi All. My DW an I are planning a big family vacation next year. We probably are not gonna book the grand villa. I was wondering if anybody new if there was a limit to how many villas we could book at once? We are considering 3-4 studios. Thanks.

Just got off the phone w/MS on this very question about 30 minutes ago...

You can book as many villas as you have the points for...you can have two in your own name; the others must be in different names...I don't understand that "rule" at all...might well be one of those "depends on the CM you get" situations...but as I only needed two studios (for our party of 6), I didn't go past her telling me I could book both reservations in my name...I just booked 'em...I'll sort out the names of who goes where later...

Anyway...that's what I was told 30 minutes ago...

You may want to ask the hidden question "what problems may I have booking rooms for and taking a Disney trip with my family, and what can I do to keep them from occurring."

(There have been lots of threads about "my brother in law and his family just backed out leaving me stuck with an extra studio!!!!" And threads about hauling a large family through Disney who wouldn't split up, but wouldn't compromise. Not that you shouldn't do it, but that you might want to be prepared.)

The only limit is the amount of points you have available to pay for them.

I would say 19 cause when you make res number 20 you will get the commercial renting nastygram.

In January I could only book one room in my name. The other had to be in another name. I really hadn't figured out who was staying where so just wanted to book it. I looks like they have loosened the requirement by 1.

Thanks for the info. It will help me plan for our next large family trip. I think it's going to be in the Fall 2009 now instead of 2008 so a few babies can get a little older.

We've been in the process of setting up a 50th wedding anniversary trip for New Years week in Orlando. I was able to book 3 VWL studios at my 11 month window. I made sure I had names, addresses, and phone numbers of each individual family when I called Member Services. I need to call Member Services back and set up Magical Express since we just recently found great airfare with Airtran (under $200 for direct flights - yipee).

We also have four Marriott 2 bedroom vacation club resorts booked for that week, as we have 34 people going on this trip. We tried to make sure the couples with small children were staying in the DVC units (convenient when you have little ones). It's been a lot of work pulling everything together, but it's a once in a lifetime event. So as long as we don't get a major snowstorm that week . . . . .

Thanks. The lodging and airfare have been the biggest challenges. When we saw those Airtran fares under $200 for a holiday week, we grabbed them - all 34 people have flights booked. Coordinating time off with bosses and managing school schedules was quite a challenge, too.

It really helps to own the DVC points and the timeshare weeks affiliated with II (Interval). The cash rates for the resorts we booked would have been way up there without our timeshare/vacation club ownerships.

My guess is that the "two in your own name" rule is related to DVC's quest to limit stop commercial speculative renting. In other words, DVC is attempting to limit the "reserve first, find renter later" method of renting.

FWIW, I think the rule is more likely to annoy members doing what you want to do than it is to stop the speculative reservations. Easy enough to make up names & addresses and then change them later.

The CM just had me write out the names and ages of each person in each room. None of them were DVC members except DH and I.

I sincerely doubt you will have any problems at check in.

That said, as soon as you know who will be staying in the rooms, please call MS and add their names to the reservation. It will save quite a bit of time at check in and those standing in the check in line behind you will appreciate it!

On my last trip, I took the approach of "dealing with it later". I had intended to call MS before we left to straighten it out but then decided to just "fix" it at check-in. and it was really a huge hassle at check-in and throughout the entire trip.. for grocery delivery, keys to the world cards, flower delivery, checkout , etc.

For anyone doing multiple room bookings for large parties you absolutely want to call MS before your trip to nail down exactly who is staying where.
In fact I'd say you probably want to call MS at least a week before arrival so you fix it before it gets distributed throught WDW's system.

I did make sure ahead of time to give MS each and every name of all in our party. I had them all written down along with the children's ages and they took them on the phone.
But at check-in the CM wanted me to write them down again showing which room would have which guest. That's never happened before and I know she wasn't a CM in training because she told us how many years she had worked at the WDW resort check in desks. I just figured she was someone who liked to be thorough.

You could look into turning your group vacation into a Grand Gathering. You only need 8 people or more. That would open up a number of Grand Gathering events such as the Safari Celebration Dinner and the Magical Fireworks Voyage.
