to stay at a resort you REALLY want to for a specific vacation?? Right now, I have 185 usable points, but WL would require 224 and BLT requires 231 for my 9 night time period. Would you: A) cut off a night altogether and buy those points needed B) cut off a night from the DVC and book a value in its place C) buy the remaining points for the 9 nites at $15/point OR D) just "settle" and try to stay at BWV or Kidani? TIA for any suggestions and I hope this makes sense:worship::confused:

Well, we just came back from our BCV/BLT split stay vacation. It was our first time staying in a 1 bedroom at BLT and realized we only wanted to vacation in these.

We came home and added on another 30 points so I can always book the reservation I really want. Most trips, there will only be 3 of us so a studio would work but we really really loved the 1 bedrooms.

So, if it were me, I would probably seek a transfer of points from another member to cover this trip. It gives you what you need without the committment of adding on and you get to use them to make your own reservation.

I don't think I could ever stay at a value, even for one night.

A - No
B - NO WAY I WOULD STAY AT A VALUE NOW!
C - $15 is way too much to pay when you can rent or transfer points in for $10
D - Only if you wouldn't be thinking "I wish I was at BLT" the entire vacation. We have 400 points at Kidani and 600 at BLT. We enjoy both places, so it wouldn't be settling for us. Some people won't stay anywhere but monorail resorts and if that is top priority for you, you will be miserable anywhere else!
E - Rent or get points tranferred in!!!

Good Luck!

Do you have points you can borrow from next year? I guess I would borrow my points and then decide if I really wanted to buy more.

when we became members in 2002, my DH told our guide he would absolutely not go over 150 pts~he didn't want us to keep up with the joneses. we bought through disney on the morning of departure, just before our flight. all it took was flipping through the points chart and the goodies they gave us as new members for him to decide to call our guide back and add-on to bring us to 210 points as the guide had recommended originally. (we added on since but 210 was enough initially). it really depends on your own needs. consider if you need the points for future vacations or just one time. ;)

The only problem with buying the "exact" number of needed points, then point chart could change and you would need another purchase. I could not do the one night value stay, only because I don't like split stays, no matter the time frames involved. I would either borrow the points or shorten the night stay.
