DH and are are former owners but are thinking of getting back into the fold. I want enough points to stay a month, either the Spring or Fall in a 2 bedroom at OKW. Any idea what I’ll need to purchase? Thanks!

Just using the DVC calculator the month of September would be 897 points and the month of October would be 996. The month of April would be 1428 and May is 1118.

I downloaded the app and found it to be super helpful in calculating a variety of resort stays during the year to compare points.

We once talked about having enough points for a 1BR for 6 weeks in Jan and Feb. At OKW and BWV-standard. We got to 650 points and calculated needing about 1200.

Then our trips started to be not the best. And Disney/DVC made changes we didn't like. Magic wore off and we began selling off our points. Now down to 325 and will hold there. Planning on just 1 regular trip a year now.

OP, if you decide to go for it...happy hunting for points and enjoy!!!

Great information everyone. This has been a huge help. Thank you!

I saw a 1770 point OKW correct for sale the other day, on dvcstore.com $72 per point. Low point cost, but a big bill. You would probably be better off buying 4 or 5 250 point contracts, they are easier to sell than 1770.

So true, not to mention leaving each son a contract would then be possible.

I tried to think this through mathematically, but honestly, I haven't seen any at a deal even at this level or I would have bought them.

I believe if you wait for this to blow over, you could get a big contract at a discount (like I did!) -- but lets assume thats not true.

SSR is your straight up best mathematical value. Pretty easy to get a big SSR contract, and no one will be fighting you for OKW.

You could go direct and just buy 4 reserved weeks. Then points don't matter....Good luck

This is the worst possible plan. Please don't pay an extra 30%(buying direct) plus 10% (reserved week) for something you can book with cheap points. And I have a reserved week.

With a giant contract, just WALK IT.

I’m sure there are some undercover DVC sales people on this forum.
So many are encouraging others to buy direct and fixed weeks, it’s subliminal mind control.
Please resist!!

20% more than what the highest week tells you that you need. :D
I'm a big believer in a cushion but for this situation one should not be needed. They can just calculate what they need and if they need to adjust one year because of a reallocation or change in timing, it won't be a big difference. The only time I'd recommend 20% (or slightly more) is for studios for off season or if looking at small contracts of say under 150 or so.

As noted, not possible at OKW and it would raise the costs dramatically.

Personally I'd look at a non DVC timeshare or condo for this length or trip but YMMV.
