How many points is enough?

We did it! After an immense amount of stalking I found my Aulani subsidized contract. After almost one year of constant searching we are about to send it off to ROFR. At 600 points it is much larger than we thought we wanted but the more it sits with me the more I feel good about it. Its actually split into three contracts so if its too much to handle we can always sell one (Perish the thought). After trying a low offer i just gave them asking at 89$ point and while it has no points till next year I do not mind and saving the dues is well worth the trade off. Just like money though it feels like we might need more even though last month I thought half this amount would suffice. I am curious if anyone ever feels like they have enough points?

Many never do. That is why they call it addonitis. 600 is decent amount. Based on where you are staying that is 1.5-2 weeks in 2 BR or 3.5 to 5 in studios. Really depends on you villa needs and how often you go/how long you stay. In a recent poll, 600 points puts someone in the top quartile of owners if I remember correctly.

Nice!! I seen a 500 point one I wanted to grab but couldn’t put together that much $ at the time. I have a smaller sub contract, looking to add on soon though. Maybe we’ll see you at Aulani 😊

Yes now my whole family can spend spring break at Aulani. Probably rent out a few points to help with paying the giant maintenance bill every year too.

It depends on the way you vacation. I like going on a 10 days - 2 weeks stretch, twice a year, so 600 is plenty for my smallish family. We started out at 160 points and not even a year later added another 160, ha-ha. I'm sure as my kids get older and want to bring friends, I would want more points again... But I have seen people use the buy and sell strategy as their family changes and I think that is the route I'd take.

As a Canadian it seems to me it's more difficult to buy and sell. They hold 30% and you have to file a US tax return among other things. I want to have just a few too many than not enough. Does your family studios? So far we have really enjoyed our stays in studios buy I feel like for an extended stay the one bedroom really starts looking attractive. At Aulani you can even rationalize that having the kitchen will pay for itself. Although we do pretty well preparing food in those studio kitchens.

We just bought our contract (and are waiting on ROFR) and did the same thing. Not as many as you, but we started at 150 and made our way up to 350. We think we got a good deal but if prices go lower we'll probably just buy more. What it came down to is we want to be able to take people when we go. That's how we found out about DVC was by staying with family over a holiday at GF and we kept talking about how cool that would be to be able to bring other people. At 350 we figure that every three years we can do a trip with just our family, an extended invite trip and then an off year, with an occasional extra trip or Vero Beach/HHI thrown in.
