My DH and I are taking our sons (4 & 2) on their first trip to WDW in September. My DH has never been their either. I know that I will be picture crazy and I want to make sure that I have enough media cards for the digital camera. Currently I have the capability of taking 1100 pictures (if I don't take any movies). Is this enough?

I don't have access to a laptop to clear the memory cards in the evening. Is there a place to do this at WDW? If so, what's the charge for that? Or, should I just buy more cards.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

We have a digital video camera, so I dont take video with my camera.

But I took 2000ish pics last year (my son was then 3.5 & it was his 3rd trip).

Of course, maybe I just take a lot of pictures. :rotfl:

But on any given day I will snap a ton of photos. I always have my camera in hand.

I would always rather have unused memory space at the end of the trip, rather then trying to figure out which pics to dump or not have enough at the end.

we bought several memory cards and are taking the laptop so they can be put on there...I know NOTHING about digital cameras so I am depending on DH and his talent to save all these pics...he said we can take several thousand pics..... I can take ton's a day so I hope he is right!

I had the same concern on one of my trips to Disney. There are photo shops at each park that sell film, frames, ect. You can upload your pics off your camera a get CD's made there. I don't remember the details though like how much it costs or how long it takes. I do remmeber doing it at AK. I think I picked up the CD at the end of the day. Not sure, maybe something you can email Disney about. I find that they are pretty quick getting back to you with answers. You don't happen to have a laptop do you? I am going to bring mine and upload my pics at the end of each day.

Sorry I don't have more specific info for you but it's a start:)

I know how many pictures we took for our last trip and it was just DH and I. (We didn't have a digital camera then but we took between 10 and 15 rolls of film for just a weekend trip. I know we'll take quite a few more this trip since it's our children's first trip. We have two 2 Gig CF cards and another 1 Gig CF card. They hold several thousand pictures picture the three of them but I'm sure they'll be full at some point. We are taking our laptop and the pictures will be transferred and probably backed up CDs as well each night.

It's better to have extras than not enough. Although there are stores at Disney where you can buy cards, film, etc.

I guess since I don't have a laptop, I'll just buy anouth 2 GB card. That way I should be able to take about 2500 pictures. Certainly that should be enough for 6 days.

Wow. Some real shutterbugs here. I have 6 gb capacity in two cards which works out to about 1,000 photographs. I think the most I have ever taken at WDW is around 200. I supplement that with 30-90 minutes of video as well.

I already have more than enough with about 250 pictures per year as I have to edit them, back them up, categorize, etc. Can't imagine what it is like doing 3000 for just one vacation, how many pictures per year does someone have overall then?

I used to print pictures but stopped doing that in 2004 because it didn't make sense, much too expensive. I now display my pictures on a digital frame and we see them constantly now. Taken together my family media uses about 60gb of space.

Hey Painesville, from Mentor!! We took 3 2g cards and filled them all in four days. They quantity will vary, based on the size of your images. Mine were huge pixel counts, so I got less. I would check CVS for good prices on cards. Tried wallmart, and they were pretty low on stock at the time, expect to pay 15-20 bucks a card.

I would suggest that you bring more memory than you think you'll ever need. I took over 2000 pictures last year. And that's with deleting a lot of them. I only stopped because I ran out of memory. Bring enough for at least 3000 pictures plus a few videos. I took video of Fantasmic, Streetmosphere actors in DHS, and a ferw other things. There is a 4gb sd card on sale for $20 at Tigerdirect.com. There's even a 2gb for $8

You should be able to delete bad shots right on the camera every night...or just buy second memory card for the camera.

HOLY CRAP!! 3000 pix? :faint: I must be so underestimating! I guess I should get myself to the store for more cards! I am now in panic mode!

We're having the same debate in my house. We don't want to take the lap top this trip, because we only used it to download pictures and it's such a hassle to lug it around. But I go crazy with the camera and I don't know how many carts I want to bring.

We took about 350 pictures and a couple of 2-4 minute videos. (I am not into videoing an entire show, parade etc... I videoed when DS was picked for Jedi Training Academy and Pirates show.

Our 1st trip I took about 700 pictures and then our 2nd trip I took about 500 (a year later). We are going again in Sept and I am sure I will take probably around 1000 because we are going with my mom and her bf and my kids, so I know there will be a lot of pictures being taken.

we take tons too. Be sure though if you upload your photos on to a disk at one of the kiosk that you format your card before using it again. That is alot of info left on the card with it being full. Happy snapping.

Last trip we took about 550 pictures, the least of our 3 trips so far. We didn't have the laptop then and I know I was worrying about running out of memory on our 2GB and 1GB cards. This time we'll bring the laptop and backup everything at the end of each day. DH doesn't think we need to but I would be devasted if I lost any pictures. My plan is to back up to a CD and if time allows to an online stroage site. I figure this year we will take more pictures since I have a ton of things I want to get pictures of that we haven't before and it will be DS1's first trip! So if we lose any of those pictures DH's head will be on the chopping block.:lmao:

Last year at DL, I only took 3G of memory for a 5 day trip. I also did video clips with it and I ran out of memory. My camera has a 7.1 mega pixel.

This year I have 11G of memory so far but I think I will get another 4G before we leave. 15G for a 13 day trip. I hope that is enough. We are also doing Photopass.

The first time we went to Disney, I bought 16 rolls of film (we didn't have a digital camera at that time). We had two film cameras and we used both of them. We got some amazing pictures.

From what I have read, batteries and film products are expensive at Disney. I would purchase camera supplies before you leave for Disney.

I'm glad others are just as worried about this as I am. I went to my sons (4) first soccer practice the other night and took 60 pictures alone. I just keep clicking to try and get the perfect shot. I know I will be one to take close to 3000 pictures! Saying that out loud does sound a bit bizarre!

I think I will do what is mentioned and delete the obviously bad pictures every evening to free up some of the cards, but my DH and I have started searching Ebay to get more memory. We have an Olympus that only takes the XD cards so they are a bit more expensive.

I take 1000+ pictures and we also had over 500 photopass pictures on our last trip. We do not use our camera for video- we have the old tried and true video camera so DH takes video while I take snapshots. I do not have a personal laptop, so I just delete pictures at night and have more room on my memory card for the next day.
