How many per camp site?

My nephew wants to camp at Ft. Wilderness for his 13th B-day. His family will have a camper, he decided he wants the rest of us to join him and his family.

We were wondering if we could put two tents on the same site as thier camper. Everything I see on the Ft. Wilderness Web-site states a min of 10 people on each site.

So does anyone know if that will work or if we have to get three individual sites?

It is a max of 10 people. It will also depend on the sizes of the tents. I've seen some sites with a couple of the smaller size tents along with an RV. Just be sure it is noted on the reservation so they give you a site with a large enough sand pad. If he books a premium site the tents will be on concrete so go with a preferred or full hook-up

Thank you.

I believe it would be 9 people total right now.

But if more decide to come we could rent a tent site and put a couple of tents on there? Just so long as the number stays at 10 people per site?

We have been to disney hundreds of time but never camped at Ft. Wilderness, so this will be a first for us.

I will be combing this board for all the helpful hints I can find. :thumbsup2

Correct. :thumbsup2

Just keep in mind that depending on when you go, the Fort fills up pretty quickly. If you're going during a busy time and suspect you'll need the extra site, better to book it now and cancel it later if you don't need it.

We are planning for the end of April.

Since we are new to camping at Disney (normally we do the hotels) I am not sure if that is busy season for the Fort or not?

Also I believe that since they re did some of the sites there is more cement and not as much of the gravel. You can't put tent stakes thru cement.
Somewhere on this site there are people that know wich sites / loops still have the larger gravel areas.

I've never staked a tent... I find it pretty worthless and a waste of time. But I only camp at the fort.

I'd only worry about getting the sand pad because it makes it slightly more comfortable.

Pretty much, if you can make it fit on your site, you can have it there. I've seen several tents set up behind sites on the ground, but it usually only lasts a couple of nights before the tents are back on the pad.

Thought I read something about if there are more than 2 adults per site overnight, an extra charge per adult is levied.

Is this so?

That's only the case with the Premium sites where they paved over the sand pads.

Yes, for every extra adult over the first 2 is charged an additional fee. I think it's only a few bucks more. But no where near as expensive as adding an extra adult to a hotel room.

For resorts: Adult is any one over 18. So any one up to the age of 17 can stay on the site with no fees.

So depending on the number of adults staying at the site, it might be worth it to get two adjoining sites.

Here is the response that I received from Disney regarding this issue. I e-mailed them before I came to the boards for answers.

Dear K, Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort. Please be advised that at the Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, a maximum of one camper, one tent and one vehicle are permited on each campsite. If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us.

K, we hope you will have the opportunity to visit the Walit Disney World Resort real soon.

Sincerely,

Jeanie Chaney

Ah, yet another classic example of Disney contradicting itself. All of the Fort literature/web info I've ever read says that you are allowed either...

1 MH/TT + 1 Tent
2 Tents

The only thing correct in that reply is that the rules do state only 1 vehicle per site. Although based on our November trip, where we frequently saw 2 and even *3* vehicles parked at sites, this seems to be at the top of the most recent "Rules to Ignore" list at the Fort.

Believe me more than 1 tent is allowed per site. Heck the current management is starting to allow more than 1 camper per site.

For example, MH and popup, or travel trailer and truck camper.

They used to really crack down on that rule, but no longer!!

I have personally had three tents on a site.

I have had a tent and a camper on a site.

I have seen camper, and two or three tents, a screen room, a truck, and a golf cart on a site.

FYI, the person that answered your question has probably never even SEEN Ft. Wilderness, much less stayed there. The person that answered your question lives at the corporate offices in Glendale, CA.

::yes::

In November we had neighbors on 300 one week, on an inside site (which tend to be some of the most cramped) with a 5th wheel, screen room, golf cart and *3* full-size pickup trucks parked across the front of the site - and no, they very definitely weren't all on the pavement. ;)

Oh, but they were apparently just fine there all week while we got a little note on our non-Disney golf cart because we parked the back wheels in the pine needles to reach the plug to recharge.

When we were there in July, we noticed several sites with multiple vehicles at their sites. We ended up bring back our second car as we figured based on what we saw that there had been a policy change. 24 hours later, security came knocking on our door and told us we needed to take a vehicle to the overflow lot. I explained that we usually did but had seen so many, we thought they had changed policies. He in a not so nice tone told us that there was no policy change and they were in the process of enforcing it. Sounds like they sometime enforce and sometimes don't. Not sure they couldn't allow 2 vehicles in the new premium sites as they are huge with lots of cement to park on.

Huh.... that guy must have been on vacation from Nov 1-20.
