How many people can fit into the Magic Kingdom?

We were just there this past week and didn't go into MK on Christmas Day or the day after, but was wondering how many people can actually go in before it closes. I was thinking about 20,000 but may be way off. We went to MGM studios on tues in the morning and there were signs up that MK was already full.

We were there on 12/17. They were expecting 55,000 and the place was packed. We asked a CM what capacity was and they said 75,000 at the MK. I don't know if that's really the number but that was the answer I got.

A whole lot of them! We were there on the 28th and after the MVMC parade I didn't think I was going to get out of Frontierland alive. It was insane. So my answer is - A LOT. :)

I was just reading the magically speaking newsletter and they said the max capacity is 65,000 unless you are staying onsite.

There are a lot of factors that go into deciding when to close a particular park. Are the restrooms clean, are people getting fed in a timely mannor, is there a line out the door at guest relations of people complaining?

But generally after about 65,000 (at the MK) it starts to get pretty bad.

I agree. I was also there on the 28th and it was by far the worst day of our vacation. We didn't accomplish anything other than character meets and you could barely move. The other days weren't bad though. I was pleasantly surprised.

*Many* years ago, we were told that they considered closing the park at 45,000. I remember that number well because I was amazed that it was 3 times the size of our town!

Disney will never officially state what the capacity is publically. For obvious competative reasons.

But 75k at MK seems correct.
i would guess, and only guess that MGM is about 45k, EPCOT is about 100k and AK is arounf 45k.

For anyone who has ever been to a sold out NFL football game, picture what it was like when 60k people were all trying to walk to the car at one time. Based on that 75k at MK seems right.

I guess I really underestimated the 20,000! I never read officially how many people could go into the MK at the same time. Were there last week and were lucky enough not to experience too much crowding, went in very early (my kids were not too happy with me!) but we did what we wanted to do in the morning and were out before noon. I heard that after noon it was very crowded, one of our friends told us it was a bottleneck between small world and peter pans flight, so much that the crowd was moving together all at once and people were actually jumping the lines in order to get out of the crowds. We ran around like crazy at opening, got a fast pass for space mountain (which was broken down twice) and left before it got too crowded.

It actually varies depending on what attractions are open. If a couple of the major attractions close down for whatever reason, that is less area they can stack the bodies, so capacity is reduced.

I know an employee in engineering (and works behind the MK) and was told just on Dec. 2 that 75,000 is the max but various closing levels can begin at 65,000.

However she said 75,000 is the fire-code max.

As a former CM we were told that capacity was 70K for Magic Kingdom, 70K for EPCOT and 35K for MGM. AK wasn't open when I was there.

I also saw attendance figures which reflect capacities close to these numbers during the busy weeks like the last week of the year, July 4th and Easter weekend. Attendance figures are closely guarded secrets for obvious reasons.

I'm having a 'doh moment but I don't understand why attendance figures are so closely guarded. :confused3 It's never been obvious to me ...

Attendnace figures are probably guarded to prevent compeditors from planning strategies to get Guests away from Disney.

Capacity figures are probably guarded to prevent Guests from panicing when they hear big numbers thrown about. After all, if some folks hear that MK holds 75 thousand people, they assume that MK has 75K in it every day - which we know is far from the case.

I have heard a lot of these same numbers bandied about over the years, so my guess is that civileng68's numbers are probably close to correct - closing probably begins around 65K and fire-code max is probably around 75K.

I remember the old E-nights, which had a a limited attendance of only 5K. Lemme tell ya, five thousand people dissapear in MK like an ice cube in a swimming pool!

My best guess on MVMCP, having been to 3 of them, is that it's probably limited to around 20K or 30K, but it's tough to say.

I don't know if this is true or not, as we were at Epcot, but we were talking with a lady who was at MK NYE and she said the park attendance was somewhere near 89,000. I don't know if that included people who left and such, but that's a rather huge number!!!

I have to believe Epcot's capacity is larger than 70,000. At least after having been there on NYE I have to believe that anyway!! My best guess is that there were very well near or over 100,000 people there!

I'll have to very politely disagree here. I mean, I was there on NYE and TOTALLY can understand how you would figure that, but 100,000 people is more than even the heaviest crowd you'd see at Epcot. Maybe Im wrong but, I just dont see, even with that horrible crowd on NYE that over 100,000 people were there.

On 12/30 we were told by a manager working on Main St. that 61-65k was capacity for MK. There is no capacity limit for EPCOT. And we were there on NYE (way cool fireworks) and there were hordes more than at MK. It was wall to wall people in World Showcase.

The cool part was that earlier when we walked from WS to FW, they let us walk behind Mexico and underTest Track as part of their crowd control. It was great!
