I plan on doing the pressed pennies with my 2 kids when we go in October and was wondering approximately how many pressed penny machines are there? Will have to x2 as they will each have to have their own :earsboy: It's not the money/change I'm worried about but more curious about how many there are. We will be hitting all 4 parks and dowtown disney so has any one got a #???

Oh Gosh there lots of machines, at the parks, water parks DTD, resorts. I got a list of all of them is a total of 17 pages. If you want it just e-mail me.

And don't forget how many quarters you will need.....

Is it two quarters for every penny?....or just one? I can't remember....

Also, the new shiney pennies end up looking the best, IMO. My DD and I have gone through our huge jar of pennies and picked all the new ones out for our trip.

Have a great time! :wave2:

Yep, it's 2 quarters to do a penny. So it could be quite expensive at $1.02 per machine :rotfl:

My count is 273 pressed pennies to be found at the 4 theme parks and Downtown Disney. There are also 40 pressed quarters at those locations.
If you were to search out all of the other machines at WDW you would find 138 other pennies and 34 quarters.
My numbers may not be exact, but they will be very close.
Pressed pennies will need 2 quarters to operate, and pressed quarters will cost an additional 4 quarters to operate (a few only require 3).
If you were to try to get 1 of every pressed coin it would cost a grand total of approximately $400.00. You will never get them all in one trip, there is always machines that are out of service.

One other note. If you are a collector of pressed pennies, if you can, it is best to use pennies that are dated 1983 or erlier. These pennies are made of copper. Pennies made 1984 to present are made of copper plated zinc. You will find that the zinc will create silver colored stripes on your pennies. And also, if you wash the coins and remove tarnish before you press them they look very nice. It is difficult to clean them after they have been pressed, and will remove their luster.

After typing all of this I now realize that I know way too much about this subject to not be cnsidered obsessed. I don't know where to find a 12 step program for something like this.

I never understood why I keep getting soda out of that machine at my work, I thought I was going to get a penny with the words "Diet Coke" embossed on it.

Just wanted to note that many of the countries in World Showcase have the pressed penny machines. They are not easy to locate, especially in countries with several stores. They are normally in the stores that most tourists would walk through and always in a corner someplace. Keep your eyes opened!!

The other thing to keep in mind is that with just about everything you buy at WDW you get back change.
When we go I bring a couple of film containers with quarters and pennies in their 2 quarter 1 penny sets.... :rolleyes1
I personally like to use all different kinds of pennys since I like the variation it makes.
The other thing is that most penny machines have 3 different designs to choose from. I tend to pick my favorite and save the other two for another trip.
I hope your kids have fun with it!! :hourglass

My DD did this on our last trip. Mostly we got our pennies pressed from each of the countries/lands at the parks. There are usually 3 choices at each machine and she would choose 1 at each. One great tip I got here from the boards is to get the plastic mini m&m containers and keep the coins in that. We stacked 2 quarters a penny, all the way up. It made it so much easier. Then, we bought the pressed penny book.

One penny machine worth noting is in Disney Quest, and you do not have to pay to get into DQ to use it.
I forget how the sign next to the penny press machine is worded, but I think it reads that machine it is one of the orginal penny press machines at WDW.
Go into the DQ gift shop and walk towards the turnstiles to the back and the left.
The machine is by a large window ticket station to the left of the turnstiles. (The exit to DQ.)

Do they sell books to collect the pennies? If so, do the books order the pennies by set?

The books just have slots inside for the pressed pennies to go into and do not have anything written inside of them. Or at least the ones that I have don't. I also have a pressed penny list if you would like it, just PM me and I'll send it to you. It breaks them down by park and then country/land. It really is a lot of fun and I thought I had gotten so many on our last trip but boy was I wrong! To just get the ones I REALLY want this time will cost me well over $100. My DBF thinks I'm crazy! Oh well! :earsgirl:

I plan on doing the pennies for my 2 kids when we go in January. All of this information is great for pre-planning. I had no idea how much change to bring and this is something that is easy for the kids to start saving now!!! We are going to try to collect as many as we can.

We collected pennies on both of our trips to WDW. There are SO MANY machines and each machine usually has three different designs, so the possibilities are endless and it get rather expensive. We try to have a theme each time we go. the first time it was all princesses and Countries in Epcot and a couple of just the names of the parks. The second time we tried rides and lesser known characters. It's fun to hunt for machines and try to find the ones you need. Next time we go, we are going for pressed quarters. Better start saving up now!

I agree that I think it can get expensive, but the other "collectible" items my kids were interested in were the pins and when I thought of having to buy TWO of everything, I think I will be getting off cheap with the pennies. We did a couple of these at a Bass Pro Shop once and they loved it, so they are very excited about it.

The pressed penny books hold 36 pressed pennies and 6 pressed quarters. Anyone know if they have changed the book's cover art since 2003?

That sounds about right. DD filled hers up. I gave her 2 rolls of quarters (and a bunch of pennies, of course), and that pretty much filled the book.

This machine cost $1.00 plus the penny to operate, and there are 4 designs.
They have had trouble keeping this machine running, but when it does break down they have fixed it quickly.

yes they have the celebration ones, and some of the pressed pennies have been replaced by ones for the celebration.
