How many miles are on your car?

I've got a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country with 66,000 miles. So far, so good (knock on wood).

DH has a 2001 Ford Taurus with 60,000 miles. Not one problem so far (again, KOW).

My last car was a 1997 Ford Explorer. DH totaled right after it turned 96,000 miles. Never had any major problems with that car either.

I have heard Hondas will go a really long time. Toyotas too. I think your cousin would be pretty safe with any of those Japanese cars. Good luck!

1998 Nissan Pathfinder has 86,000 mile and still going strong, no major problems.
Also a 1995 Ford Escort (my beater car) 170,000 miles

We have an 04 Colorado with 20k and last week a faimily member gave us a 97 tracer that has 138k on it. This will be out short run car to cut down of gas but it runs fine and does not look its age either.

I have an Oldsmobile 95 Silhouette mini van as a third vehicle it has 130k miles on it. We have put some money in it over the years but it is a good car.
My FIL had two Olds one had 250,000+ miles on it he sold recently to someone else that is still driving around and another Olds with 200,000+ miles on it. He swears by Olds.

I drive a 2000 Blazer that we bought in November of 1999. It now has 65,560 miles on it.

Looking forward to replacing it in the fall (or perhaps sooner!)

We had to replace the engine in it this past summer. I'll never buy another Chevrolet again, and I used to be a tried and true Chevy fan. Up to that point, it never had one single problem, ran like a champ.

2003 Mercedes - just hit 60,000 miles. Haven't spent any $$$ on it yet, but I know repairs will be very high when the time comes. My warranty ran out at 50,000 miles and I inquired as to the cost of a three year extended warranty. It was $3,600! I said forget it. I am hoping to keep it three more years without spending much.

2001 Suburu with about 50,000. I love this car, I also loved the previous Suburu that I had for 11 years. We also have a 2003 Volvo (35,000 miles) that had some issues initially (new model) but seems to have settled down and has not needed anything but tires in the past year.

I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX 5-speed, with 193,400 miles on it. And it runs fine! In the last two years, I have put alot of money into it, but the car overall runs great so I felt it was worth it. I even drove the car TWICE to Orlando from NJ in the last three months with no problems at all - I never worried one bit since I knew it would make it. Also, I originally decided to buy an Accord because a former High School teacher of mine had one, and I really liked her car. She recently sold her 1992 Accord EX with 201,437 miles on it, and it was still running great!

I already know my next car will be another Honda!

My Dad just gave his 1994 Honda Accord LX 5-Speed to my younger brother, it has about 240,000 miles on it, still runs great hardly any repairs on it. The car was originally my Mom's, she drives a 2000 BMW 323 with 140,000 miles on it and it's in perfect condition (my Mom is afraid to fly, thats why so many miles on their cars)

I have a 1998 Honda Civic DX 5-Speed with 109,000 miles on it, the only repair needed turned out to be a recall. I love my car, it drives great, gets 35 miles to the gallon and I feel safe in it.

I highly recommend Honda's, I have never met someone disappointed with their Honda.

I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla with 6700 miles on it.

I would definitely buy either a used Honda or Toyota. These two seem to drive forever.

99 Dodge Stratus with 90,000 miles on it. Never had a problem with it and still love it. It still looks brand new too. The only thing is now with an 8 and 10 year old I really need more room. My next purchase maybe a Honda minivan. DH has a new Ford Supercrew that we love and holds all of us comfortably. I wouldn't mind one of those either, but that's not very girly.

Wow, I'm really surprised to hear about the Jeep Cherokee. I thought those had issues. Someone who works at Chrysler told me the Jeep Cherokee & Jeep Liberty are crap, but I do see lots of them around here too.

you thought right... a long-lasting problem-free Jeep is the exception rather than the rule (Used to work in a Jeep parts dept.)

I truly think there is no greater blessing in life than a car that runs forever with small repair bills and allows your family to stay out of the "car loan payment" cycle.

DH has an Isuzu Rodeo with about 165k on it. We bought it 5 years ago when it had around 85k miles on it for $11,000. I think we've had to put new tires on it and a new battery once and we've had to recharge the a/c a couple of times. When our oldest son turns 16 over the summer, we'll probably turn it over to him - haven't decided yet.

I drive a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. I think I have about 50,000 miles on it. I like the car, but I'm leery of Fords in general.

DH had an 89 Honda Accord he bought new, he traded it 2001 for another Accord when it had 225,000 miles on it. Ran like a champ the whole time, he travels for work a lot, so that is why it had so many miles. He now drives a 2004 Pilot. He traded the 01 Accord for the Pilot because he fits better (he's almost 6'6'').

DD20 also had an Accord, we bought a used 1997 for her with 70,000 miles in 2002. She traded it last year with over 90,000 miles, never had a problem with it either (she is however having problems with what she traded for, I'm guessing she wishes she still had her Accord).

I drive a 1999 Windstar van and I am closing in on 100,000 miles. I am going to get a new vehicle later this year. More than likely it will be the Honda CRV and the plan is for DD12 to get it when she starts driving in 4 years. Hondas have always been great cars for us, new and used.

The problem with buying a pre-owned high mileage is you don't know how the vehicle was maintained by prevoius owner(s). I would recommend buying it from a dealer that sells that make, chances are it is a trade and the vehicle was serviced there. If it was serviced there records are easy too obtain.

More and more cars are leased now and are not serviced the way they should be. People figure they don't own it so why spend money on it. Aside from trades that is were alot of inventory of used vehicles come from.

The most reliable, in my humble opinion, are Japanese vehicles. Nissan, Honda, and Toyota products being the best. I'm an auto tech of 12 years and have worked at Nissan, Infiniti, and presently employed at a Hyundai dealership. Not too offend any Hyundai driver's, but that great warranty you have is because you are gonna need it. I miss Nissans and will probably be going back.

The Escort is slowly dying, but it has been very good to us. The first 4 years I drove it more than 100 miles a day commuting to college. I hope it lasts a little longer so we can save up for another car.
