How many meals do you pay OOP while on the DP?

Just wondering how many meals people pay out of pocket when they're on the dining plan. It seems like every week I discover another place that I just have to try while I'm there.

I'm already at 3 OOP TS meals for my upcoming vacation, and I may be adding another character breakfast.

We're only a party of 2, so I guess it isn't as costly to get more OOP meals than a full family.

Do you get meals OOP while you're there? How many?

We usually like to go to Fulton's during our stay and pay OOP for that. Otherwise we usually eat only two meals a day, a very late breakfast and then dinner. Our OOP expenses come from appetizers and wine with dinner which can add up. ;)

Are you on the deluxe plan? If not, that may be the way to go for you.

Even with the deluxe though its easy to go over if you do a lot of signatures.

None. We always bring snacks for the morning - granola bars, pop tarts, oatmeal to go bars. Then we eat an early CS lunch and a TS dinner. Snacks whenever someone wants one.

We always have enough credits - normally a few CS and snack credits left to use on our last day.

We might pay for one or two counter service breakfasts out of pocket. That's a big MIGHT. We aren't big breakfast eaters and we drive so I am able to bring snacks, snack cakes, cereal, drinks and more.

We went in July and had the regular plan. It was 4 of us though (DH, me, DS3 and DS1 who was not on the plan as he is under 3). The only meals we paid OOP were 2 character breakfasts. We had planned a TS dinner every night (we prefer to do a TS dinner while on vacation), we had CS lunch everyday (in the parks with the exception of check-in day which was at Pop Century), and we mainly had breakfast in our hotel room (cereal, and we brought a hot pot and Folgers singles for coffee, as there are no coffee makers at POP). There were 2 character breakfasts we really wanted to do. One was at DHS, the Hollywood & Vine breakfast since our kids love Playhouse Disney characters and this was the only meal that offered them (meaning characters other than Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and My Friends Tugger and Pooh from Playhouse Disney). They also have the characters at lunch but we prefer a quick lunch while touring parks. We also did breakfast at Chef Mickey's on the last morning, as we felt a character breakfast was a great end to our trip and it definitely made it less upsetting going to bed on that final night!

We just made ADRs for the TS meals we wanted. We had 7 TS meals on our 5-night trip and so we did the math. We discovered that the 2 character breakfasts were the lowest cost so we decided to pay OOP for those and use the DDP TS credits for all of the dinners. We did all-you-can-eat dinners for every single one so the price was very easy to figure out. If dining at an a la carte place it would be more difficult as I would not know what we would order for sure or be in the mood to eat at that moment. But for a flat per-person charge place it was easy to figure out. We also paid OOP for beer at the Biergarten, and the autograph books we bought at our first dinner. Appetizers were not an issue since we were at all-you-can-eat restaurants.

Our next trip, summer 2010, will be 10 nights and our first one as DVC members. We will be getting the regular dining plan once again. This time our little guy will be 3 already so he will also be on the plan. We still plan on one TS dinner every evening, using CS credits for lunches, and paying OOP for some character breakfasts. We will definitely continue to go to a character breakfast the last morning of all our Disney trips. This is going to become a tradition for us as we felt it was a wonderful end to the trip. This time we will be staying at BWV (and every trip) so we will go to Cape May Cafe the final morning since it is so close and easy.

I think paying OOP for 3 meals is fine, or even 4. I have sat down and done the math and tried to figure out the difference between what we want to do on a 10-night trip as if we paid OOP for a few meals while on the DDP, and compared it to getting the deluxe plan. The deluxe plan just seems like too much food for us at this point, and I feel like we would be eating a HUGE breakfast every morning if on the deluxe plan. I am trying to avoid that (weight gain, and also we get sick of eating so so much after a few days anyway), and have breakfast in our villa most mornings (full kitchen on a one-bedroom anyway). So we will be paying OOP once again for maybe at most 4 character breakfasts in a 10-night trip. Much less money than deluxe plan, plus we do not need 2 snacks each daily (that's 8 snacks per day to use, 80 on the whole trip!!!), and I could do without the appetizer of just pay OOP if there is one I must have at an a la carte place.

We had the regular DDP during free dining and did not pay for anything out of pocket and in fact took a lot of CS with us that fed us for 2 days after the trip. But if I eat a huge breakfast, then I won't be hungry until 2 or 3. So one big TS and a CS (which actually 3 or 4 split among the 5 of us was more than enought food) was great and we used most of our snack credits for breakfast or to get a Dole Whip float, frozen lemonade or other juice goody. I do not know how much you normally eat, only you do. When you go out as a family, let us say after church, then what do you eat for dinner? For us, it would be popcorn or maybe a sandwhich for the boys. But if you eat out a huge meal at lunch and can still eat a big supper, then maybe you will pay OOP. But for us, we really had trouble using up all of our credits.

I did some calculations and it would be an extra $32 a day for each of us to do the DxDP for a total of $320 more. Since most of the extra meals are set price buffets that include drinks, I only suspect that it'll cost us around $192 (including tip) for the 4 extra meals for the 2 of us.

We only bought adult beverages OOP on the DDP (both the paid version in May and the free version in September.) We used our snack credit for breakfast pastries, counter service at lunch & table service at dinner (no 2 credit meals in September, so we had one table service meal every night we were there.) We were so stuffed, we never (NEVER) finished all the food from lunch counter service or from dinner table service - there's no way we could have added any more table service meals or eaten any more OOP foods. Husband is averaged sized guy but I'm definitely a Pooh-shaped person...not small appetite people!

I have been trying to plan our stay, and I think we are staying 5 nights, and i think we will have 2 OOP meals and appitizers, and maybe some AM OOP breakfast waffles. My son who is 1 we have us purchasing more snacks for him too probably. He will be 22 months.

Last trip on DDP we did not pay any meals OOP. Only beer or wine.

We are returning in Dec for 8 days and we will only be paying for one meal this time OOP. For the first time we have an evening flight home so we have an ADR at Crystal Palace for an 8am breakfast and a few hours at the park before we head to the airport.

DDP plan not only saves us money, allows us to pay it off before we go but it also gives me a guideline for our meals. I think if I started adding more ADR's than on the plan it would defeat the purpose.
Besides, I don't think we could "stomach" any more food either.

It isn't uncommon for us to pay OOP for meals, and we go on the DxDP usually. For us, it is just a matter of wanting to eat at Signature places, and that costs 2 meals for us. We usually eat breakfast in the resorts, and we do sit-down meals 95% of the time. We really enjoy eating at our favorite places, so paying OOP for a few cheaper lunches isn't that big of a deal to us.

None here either, we ended up giving away 4 CS meals because we couldn't eat anymore... so FULL.

I didn't buy a few things oop though, Grand Marnier Slush in France, a soda or 2. Just because I wanted to 'save' my SC's for items that were more expensive.

We plan on paying breakfast in our room mostly oop (maybe using some snack credits for fresh fruit, milk, etc.) and 1 dinner oop when we drive to Daytona.

Glad to know I'm not the only one! We are arriving early and flyout out in the evening, which is partly why, and 3/4 of the extra meals are breakfast (I ended up booking the 4th one - a 1900 Park Fare Breakfast...I'm a huge Alice fan if you can't tell from my avatar!)

The other one is a Sci Fi Dine In lunch. It's a tradition for me to go but I didn't want to spend a TS dinner credit on it, so we're doing an OOP lunch on our DHS day.

Dbf and I are both pretty thin people, but boy can we eat! My family is a bunch of foodies as well, so eating has always been a big part of any vacation. We're 22 and 25 and we have 3 character meals! haha

It's also my first trip to Disney as an "adult" where I'm doing all of the planning and paying for myself, so I want to make is special and don't see a huge need to budget because it'll be my only vacation this year.

We usually add 1 OOP meal to eat at Beaches & Cream. It doesn't make sense to use a TS there. Other than an occasional appetizer or adult beverage, the # of credits suits us just fine.

None. We always bring snacks for the morning - granola bars, pop tarts, oatmeal to go bars. Then we eat an early CS lunch and a TS dinner. Snacks whenever someone wants one.

We always have enough credits - normally a few CS and snack credits left to use on our last day.

Exactly the same here. We bought some water and powerade oop...that is about it.
