How many meals do you get?

This may sound silly since I've been to WDW so many times and we've done dining a bunch however, I was wondering exactly how many meals you get? Do they count the days of arrival and departure or what? We always seem to come home with unused snacks and meals.

For example, we'll be there on 9/9 and leaving 9/16. Our flight 9/9 is is the late afternoon so we won't be using any meals and our flight 9/16 is morning so we may use a quick service breakfast. So do we get 8 meals and snacks since we're technically there for 8 days or 7 since we're booked for 7 nights?

I wonder since we always have unused meals what we are doing wrong? :confused3

You get as many meals as you have booked nights. So if you're at your resort for 7 nights, you get 7 meal credits per person.

So if you're not eating on the day of arrival and the day of departure, then yes, you will have an extra day's meals left over, unless you use up those credits beforehand.

Yes it is based on nights, but you do not get 7 meals credits. You get 7 x whatever the daily allotment is.

So, if you booked:

Deluxe you get 7 times 3 credits plus 2 snacks = 21 credits and 14 snacks
Regular you get 7 times 1 TS and 1 CS and 1 snack = 7TS, 7CS, and 7 snacks
QSDP you get 7 times 2 CS and 2 snacks = 14 CS and 14 snacks

If you're talking about the dining plan, it depends on which dining plan you book and how many nights you stay (there are three different dining plans).

If you stay 7 nights on the basic plan (the most popular plan) you get 7 TS credits, 7 CS credits and 7 snacks per person for the entire trip. You can start using them as soon as you check in to your resort and you can use them however you choose until they expire (which they do at midnight AFTER you check out). So yes, you can use them for meals after you check out of the resort, if you have credits left in your account then.

You don't have to use 1 TS credit per person per day, you can use them however you want, even for 2 TS meals in one day, as long as you have the credits in your account.

Ahh, OK, that's what I thought but we usually seem to have food credits left over. Mostly CS meals which we share a lot of so I guess we are using them enough. We aren't breakfast eaters but I guess maybe we ought to start!

Thanks!

That is the thing with the DDP's.... if you want to use all your creds, you are going to be eating a lot. Honestly, we enjoy doing the DDP, but we finally just stopped worrying about our credit use. We got it for convenience, not to worry at the end if we got a big bargain or not. We always use up our TS's, and most of our CS's, then end of trip we stop and get candy/snacks for the trip home to use up our snack creds. We still get our money's worth each time, but we just don't force ourselves to keep eating when we don't feel like it.

BTW, we aren't big breakfast eaters, so one of the things we did was stop and get cinnamon roll to split... things like that. Then we weren't stuffed at lunch :)

That's usually the issue I think. We aren't breakfast eaters really either. The boy only eats cheerios so bring them with us and he and the baby eat that. My dad might eat a croissant and coffee and hubby and I usually split a muffin or have a biscuit.

We usually only use the dining plan when it's free so you are right, we ought not to worry about it.

Our last trip we paid for the DQS service and it wasn't worth it for us. We had some many credits left over it was a waste of money. We try not to overeat so we usually share our meals when available.

If you are going to have an extra TS left over and not use it, why don't you look into doing a signature restaurant?

That's what I would do if we were getting there late and leaving early on arrival and departure days.... I would plan one or two signature meals, or a character meal, maybe the hoop dee doo, or the castle to help use my credits. The best thing.. I'm sure you're aware, is that you can keep track of what you have left on your receipts. I always check after a meal, since we have one child under three, I want to make sure they didn't accidently charge me for 6 credits, when it should only be five, just to make sure we have what we need for our TS's. Some times we'll share a breakfast platter in the morning at the food court, which would use up some of our CS's. It's enough to hold you over till lunch. We're not breakfast people, we tend to pay OOP for a piece of fruit or something like that to eat on at the bus stop.

I have a quick question too.

I get that you credits are added based on your ammount of nights. We are staying 7 nights, 8 days. On our last day are we still able to use our dining credits? Or do we have to have them used by midnight on the 7th day, since were not staying another night on the 8th day.

I hope thats not too confusing of a question. lol!

It is midnight of the day you check out. So, if you are staying 7-Jan to 12-Jan (for example), you have until midnight on 12-Jan, even though you are not staying the night of 12-Jan.

That's a point. We check our receipts but I don't think we have ever checked to see how many credits we were charged as we also have toddlers.

We booked 2 TS dinners on one day so I hope that will fix the issue.

Thanks!
