My mother has eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls. I am the third and the oldest girl. She miscarried a fifth girl in between the two youngest sibs.

My mom was told she couldn't have children. So, they adopted my oldest brother. Before the adoption was finalized, she was pregnant with my oldest sister. 4 more children followed. We're a total of 6 -- I'm the second to youngest.

Six -- 4 girls; 2 boys.
I am the *baby*. A soon to be 47 year old baby.

One baby died when she was only a month old.

She was born healthy. Back then they didn't have a name for SIDS. But mom has always felt that is what it was since the baby was healthy right up until when she died in her sleep. Poor little dear.
