How many DVCers plan on taking Disney Mediterranean Cruise?

Although 331 points is a tad heavy for 1st & 2nd passenger for a Verandah Stateroom, spending 7 days in the Mediterranean in Spain, Rome and Italy sounds pretty hard to pass up.

My husband and I have been chatting about this for days and pretty much came to the conclusion that we'd be willing to forgo a couple of years worth of points at disney and use them for a mediterranean trip. I have spent a couple of summers in Europe and am dying to show my husband some of the places I got to know but he is not so hot on the idea of traveling in europe (not knowing the various languages etc). Doing it on a disney cruise makes it much more "approachable" for him. I would LOVE to do a transatlantic crossing with them also, as i LOVE the sea days. As long as we were there we'd HAVE to check out DLP too! But this would for sure be a "once in a lifetime" trip, unlike the caribbean cruises where I can see us going back again.

Where is everyone getting this detailed information from. I've heard the talk about a Mediterranean cruise and stuff, but I didn't hear about firm information, especially in regards to points and price. Could you help me and give me some guidance as to where to go for info???

I received two types of notice about Disney making changes in their cruise programs. One was a short survey that was mailed which indicated that a number of other packages were being considered and specifically mentioned Mediterranean, Alaskian, and several others.

I also rec'd an e-mail survey that had very pointed questions (including asking if you owned DVC). One of the questions reads..."for a limited time, DCL will relocate one of its ships to the Mediterranean Sea for a series of 7 night cruise vacations. In addition to all the on-board entertainment and activities designed for kids, teens, adults and families, guests on this itinerary will take in the sights, history and culture of Europe with access to some of the top European attractions. Home port is Barcelona Spain. With the following ports & access listed.
(1) Cannes, France/Monte Carlo; Nice. (2) Livorno, Italy/Florence; Pisa. (3) Civitavecchia, Italy/Rome. (4) Naples, Italy/Pompeii (Mt. Vesuvius). (5) Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Points or dollars for the 1st and 2nd person each are as follows:
Inside Stateroom...218, or $1759
Outside Stateroom...242, or $2089
Verandah Stateroom...331, or $2859

Info on booking is likely some time off. But I'd say this particular cruise is a lock.

Thanks for the info. I haven't received anything and all I have heard thus far has been rumor. I guess what you received firms it up. I will definitely have to keep this in mind when making future vacation plans.

Did they indicate when this might happen, year wise?

Yes, sorry I should've included that. Sunday departures in Summer 2004. The airfare examples they provided (additional cost, of course) from major cities to Barcelona were all in the $800 to $1100 range.

I would love to do the Cruise, but not on points.

While the Disney prices look high, I assume those are the "list" prices and you can probably get better prices. (I know you can get better prices on the current Disney crusie then the "list" price!)

It would be awesome if when we cruise for the first time in May 2003 and if we enjoy it, that we could book this Mediterranean cruise and get the on-board credit.

I will have to keep this in mind.

We are planning on taking a cruise in 2004 and right now we are planning on a 4 day followed by a few days at Vero. I'd ditch those plans in a heart beat to take the Mediterreanian cruise! If only I can stash away enough points!

We booked our 1st cruise for Feb 2004 (4 day), with a few days at VB also. We booked with cash though(pts were ridiculous

), but you never know about 2005.

We definitely want to do this and hopefully we will have bought more points by then. the points prices are high but, the flights are cheaper for us (from the uk) making it more worthwhile.
