to have a blood alcohol content of .08%. I'm curious as NJ just lowered our limit to this. I rarely drink and don't drive if I have more then a drink with dinner but i wonder. I had heard that France had lowered their bac to .07 and that people are afraid to have a glass of wine with dinner.
I'm a strong defender of dui laws and believe that the first offense should have severe penalties including some jail time. I also think that a person should not get the opportunity to be a repeat offender. But I wonder if with this limit a person could have two beers over an afternoon bbq and be over the legal limit.

Your BAC depends on your weight and the course of time you were drinking.

Here is some info courtesy of MADD:
An average 170-pound man must have more than four drinks in one hour on an empty stomach to reach a .08 percent blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level. A 137-pound woman would reach .08 BAC after about three drinks in an hour on an empty stomach (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) - a level that exceeds what is commonly accepted as social drinking.
Regardless of how much alcohol it takes to get to this level, at .08 BAC any driver is a dangerous threat on the road. .08 BAC is the level at which the fatal crash risk significantly increases and virtually everyone is seriously impaired, affecting all of the basic critical driving skills including: braking, steering, lane changing, judgment and response time (NHTSA).
The risk of a driver being killed in a crash at .08 BAC is at least 11 times that of drivers without alcohol in their system. At .10 BAC the risk is at least 29 times higher (Zador).
More than 20 percent of alcohol-related traffic deaths involve BAC levels below .10 percent (NHTSA).

I don't know, but I do know it takes only 2 wine coolers for me to get really silly.

Wow, that to me is alot of drinking in an hour. I am a lightweight when it comes to alcohol, and would not consider getting in a car with more then one drink over a 2hour dinner. Over a whole day gathering with food, volleyball, swimming, etc. I could see having 3 drinks and then driving (although I don't) But I would think more then that nobody should drive. If it is that many drinks I would say it should be set even lower.

what they said on the news this morning Tig. I was supprised too that someone who weighs over 150 can have 4 drinks in an hour!!! That to me is alot.

I just had to take a Alcohol Education course online and I learned ALL about BAC. Like if I drank 2 drinks in an hour I would be completely gone.
