Seriously thinking of heading to the world on my own for a few nights this summer. DH and the boys are big campers and have multiple trips planned - I think they've done over 14 nights away from home just since January and the summer is quickly filling up with their trips away (they're all involved in scouts)
So, to give myself a break from these 4 walls, I'm thinking of skipping out of town and straight down to WDW!
Considering most of my trips have been with family (many many trips) I don't think I'll really need a full week to unwind and get my fill of the magic. How many days do you find are ideal? 3 or 4? Do you plan a park a day or do you just stick with a favourite? Not sure how to plan a trip for one??

I do have an annual pass - so the ticket price/multi-park etc won't make a difference.

first off...good for you wanting to go solo...if you've never done it, you will enjoy your time alone.
second, what is it that you want to accomplish (other than enjoying your obsession for the mouse)...if you are looking to take a leisurely stroll through the parks you could very easily use a week of time. if you are all about trying new places to eat or see stuff your family doesn't want to then yeah, you could probably do 3-4 days. I was just there for a week and I still didn't do all the things I wanted to and I park hopped. if you're a "go commando" type of person, 3-4 days is fine.

I'm definitely a "go commando" park person. The family is always trying to keep up with me.
Hmmm...I think I'll want to try a tour or two - I haven't had a chance to do that before! Maybe I'll end up needing more days if I really want to get a lot done. I don't need to do all the big rides but it would be nice to try some new things.

For those of you who've done the "solo trip" before - where do you start ??

I start with my ADRs!! only because I tend to not eat if I don't put it in writing....I went an entire day (3:00pm-1:00AM) without eating because I was so wrapped up in the magic! basically wherever my ADRs are is where I start. then I think of what I didn't see last time...then all the things that I must do (Soarin' is my fav) so anything after that is icing...

I've never had a solo trip, but I've done some solo time and I found out I don't really do rides much at all. I didn't mean to do it, but realized I went through each park as they opened. First I went to MK and leisurely strolled down Main St. and took in all the little things I miss when I'm there with the kids. I checked out the castle from all angles, I sat in a rocking chair and watched everyone rush by. Then I went to Epcot, had a drink and strolled around WS and took in a lot of the shows. I couldn't stand WS before my solo time, but now it's a very close second to MK. I did the same with DHS then AK. I found comfy spots to get the best views of the fireworks shows.

I'm not big on ADR's, but then again, I'm not comfortable eating alone at home either. I like grabbing food/drinks while I explore.

I couldn't believe how much I missed when our only focus was the rides.

Like I said, I've only gone solo here and there, but those trips really solidified my love - obsession - with Disney. I cannot wait to do a whole solo trip. For me, I think 3-4 days would do the trick.

I did 5 nights on my first solo trip in Feb. That gave me 4 full days, which let me start one morning at each of the 4 parks. This was my first trip in 7 years, so there was a lot of new stuff I wanted to do and see; I set my priorities and must-dos and everything else was a bonus. I am a big believer in Park Hoppers, wouldn't do the World without 'em. I didn't load up with ADRs, but I knew I wanted Flying Fish and Via Napoli, and decided to do a lunch at Les Chefs, too (all new to me). I looked at crowd predictions on Touring Plans and EasyWDW, but in the end made my decisions based on my own priorities (hit DHS first because I had the greatest number of Priorities there, hit AK on Monday because I wanted to use AM EMH). It was a low crowd time, anyway, and I think my choices fit pretty well with the predictions.

I will be taking my first solo trip in September so I'm curious to read others replies on this topic and their experiences. I have already booked everything.. I'm doing 5 nights 6 days with the last day having a 9pm flight home so I have 6 full days in the parks. I think this amount of time will be perfect.. not too much and not too little so I won't feel rushed at all. I am going during Free Dining so I did book meals. I will be meeting up with my friend who will be there the same dates as me, so we are going to Teppan Edo together and Hoop-dee-doo Revue (my first time there!) and I wanted to have both a breakfast and dinner at my favorite, Kona Cafe. Since its just me at Kona, I figured I won't take too much time at those meals and breakfast is very early 7:30am... no better way to start a day than at the Poly. I have not been to wdw in 4 years so I wanted to really experience everything, some meals and all. Just knowing that I can do things on my time is just wonderful thinking about it.

I agree with this poster. I went on my first solo trip in November. I did a handful of rides at each park (not counting the 3 times in a row I rode TOT!!). I watched shows I had never seen, talked with many CM's and had an afternoon poolside. I stayed for 3 nights 4 days and it was perfect. Any longer than that and I start to miss sharing Disney with my family!

I have never been to the World on a solo trip, but would really like to try one too so was wondering the same. I did do a solo trip to the "Other Orlando" trips earlier this year and went for 5 1/2 days. I must admit that this seemed like too much time to me as it was my first trip and I am not that outgoing. In the middle I really started to miss my DH...but I am guessing that going to the World there would be a lot more to see and it could depend on how you like to spend your time. In know for me, some of the down times were great to just hang out at the resorts by the pool and read.

I'm going solo for the first time for 6 nights/7 days, BUT I'm not going to be completely by myself for the whole time. I have my cousin coming with me to my Universal day, and a couple of friends to spend a day at the World with me at some point, so I think a week will be perfect for me to do all of the things I want to do by myself, with enough social interaction to keep me from being lonely. Of course, I'm pretty much a loner in real life anyways, so this isn't much of a stretch for me!
