if you are visiting for 7 days/6 nights? What do you do on your "rest" days, if any? Can anyone suggest a schedule that's worked for them over the years? This will be our first time. Well, actually, it'll be MY 4th time but I'm 36 and haven't been since I was like 8. My aunt, uncle and cousin were very kind to take me back then but, hey, I didn't have a clue how good I had it and lots have changed since then....like the Poly and Contemporary. Somehow I don't think they would have the same awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping affect today that they had back then. I saw pics of the Contemporary and, well, eeeww. Thinking about the Wilderness Lodge this time.

:goodvibes I kept trying to post this and kept getting an error message "Your post contains one or more URLs, The DIS requires a minimum number of posts before allowing the posting of URL's" What?! I have to chuckle now though....I had one too many w's in "eeeww". It took a couple of minutes to figure it out though! :rotfl:

Well it all depends on what you want to do. Rest days, what are those :confused3 :rotfl2: The first time we went in April of 04 was Easter week and also our Disneymoon. We went to a park every day. This past time in December we were there for 7 days (6 days in April) and the arrival day we just went to DTD and then HDDR..this was our only free day. Needless to say in October our only free day will be my bday. We are going to Ak on arrival day, Epcot the next, MK the next, my bday is on a Friday and that will be resort hopping and park hopping that day, the next day will be mgm, that sunday will be Epcot again, and on Halloween will probably be MK and catch up on everything day..

I'm extremely worried that 8d/7n won't be enough time!! We've never had enough time in the past with the 7d/6n configuration, so this time I added a day and I've been trying to schedule a mid-day break. We do spend our last partial day Downtown finishing up the shopping.

Rest days??? We don't need no stinking rest days... :jumping1:
DH (SkipperBubba pirate: ) and I do the 7-day routine, and we usually go pretty full-tilt. We usually do take one evening for a field trip to CityWalk (must...have...Margaritaville...), but other than that we're park-hopping around the property every day we're "home."
If we want to rest those tired, barking dogs, we have a late-evening soujourn in the WL hot tub.
Happy vacationing,

We stayed 7 days last year and we never had a whole rest day. We did go back to the hotel a couple of afternoons because we were totally burnt out. It was near the end of the week though. We were in Epcot and we were so tired that we couldn't move after we ate at Alfredo's. We had to ride the boat back across the lake and after we got back to the hotel, we slept for almost 5 hrs.....we got back just in time for our 7:30 PS at Coral reef. When we go next time, we will probably rest a lot more so we won't burn out again.

We did do the 7days trip and did have two rest days. We did do a couple of parks during our "rest" days but we weren't there to beat the crowds or to stick to a schedule. Instead we went gift shopping and took advantage of the 'down' time to really look at the park and to take some pictures that we'd been too busy to take before.

Oh, and we also had our toddler's hair trimmed at Harmony Barber Shop. Just basically took our time soaking in things. And also did at least two parades.

On our 2nd 'rest' day, we hung out at the pool and took pictures of the resort and did whatever it was we wanted to do.

I really enjoyed those 'rest' days and don't think I'd ever go back if I didn't have *at least* 7days to enjoy at the World.

Rest dayS...plural?!? :rotfl2:

Rest days are very important though! I always take one the day after I get home!

On my December trip I was there for six night/7 days with my brother and SIL...they were planning a rest day....it never happened...neither had been in years and years and it's easy to forget/not realize just how BIG Disney is...they are still saying how we should have stayed another night or two.

We did have some pool time, but the brunt of time was spent in the parks. We were there during a slow time and we still never made it to Disney Quest or to a waterpark like we wanted to. We had a GREAT time of course, but instead of rest days, think rest HOURS!

This Aug DS13 & I will be at WDW 14nights (8nights VWL, 6nights BCV)
We wont be going into the parks until our 3rd full day - (activating APs and want them for Aug next yr too before a Disney cruise)
Those first few days we'll be pool hopping (DVC), character brkfst, Downtown Disney, day at Typhoon Lagoon.
Once we start w/the parks we'll be spending either the morn or night at the parks - not both.

...you might consider "half" a rest day. Sleep in, have a late breakfast somewhere, dip your toes in the pool, hop over to Downtown Disney, spend too much money, maybe take a peek at some of the other resorts, then visit one of the parks later in the afternoon, say after 4 (MGM or Animal Kingdom would probably be easier to navigate...I supsect MK and Epcot would be jammed by then.)

Also: one of the online guides (I think it's Tourguide Mike?) recommends visiting the waterparks at the END of the day, for a couple hours, NOT the beginning. Never tried that, but it might be worth a shot :confused3

I'll rest a couple of hours in the afternoon between my morning park and evening park, but "rest days"? Nope....I don't do them. I'll rest when I get home.

I have to admit, planning on resting days id very hard to do. WDW costs so much I tell myself I'll rest when I get back home.
But with kids, going to the parks all day long especially in the summer months, id very hard. My kids asked for rest days, and since this is also THEIR vacation, I accepted to go for more days. We are up to 13 days now....

There really is alot to do at WDW that isn't going on in the theme parks, and with a 6-7 days it is very hard to try to do a bit of everything.....

When we went last year, we took a rest day in the halfway point. It consisted of sleeping, pool time, dinner in DTD, and shopping....

I would rent a boat and ride around the lakes by WL. Have a great time!

When my family gets back from 11d/10n, we are wore out but a few days later it feels like we never went. We will usually go to MGM for half of the day then go back to the resort and rest. My parents will usually take a nap after we go to a park. I hope you have a good trip! :sunny:

For us rest days mean not waking the kids up at the crack of dawn to get to a park that day. I let them sleep a little longer than usual. We still go to a park everyday. The rest day is just a little more layed back. Not sure if you have children or not. Before I had kids, (what was a rest day)??

ITA. I never got the point of a rest day (non-Park) on a WDW vacation :confused3

Honestly..we hit the parks "commando" style. We generally go 10-12 days at a shot, and our 1 down day will be a half day at the parks followed by a swim and maybe downtown Disney. Then again, my family is not a waterpark/pool type of family. We enjoy the rides and the park atmosphere more. I'm so proud of my DD and DS too, I've raised them to be mini-commando Disneyites also. :rotfl:

You are going for a decent amount of time, but since you haven't been in awhile, you might not want an entire day off from the parks. How about you spend a half day at Fort Wilderness. It's a hidden treasure. We sometimes go in the morning, or in the evening if we want to do the hay ride and the campfire singalong. We've been canoeing, biking, walking, horsebackriding. There is a lot over there that people miss. We also like hanging out by the pool, especially if we're staying at YC/BC because we love Stormalong Bay. You could spend some time shopping and dining at Downtown Disney. You could play minature golf, our favorite is Fantasia. You could visit one of the water parks.

We usually go 7 days, but for our next trip we've added a day. In just 10 days, we'll be there and I'm so excited.

Have fun - you're smart to think about relaxing on your trip.

I have a 3 yo and 7 yo, so we have rest periods, not a whole day. Last year at MNSSHP we did Epcot in the morning, had lunch then took a nap. DD was 18 months, after nap we went LTT for dinner and stayed at the party till closing!!! She was fantastic. I always just rest according to what the kids need. I rest at home!

we build in a rest day usually, just because our group usually needs it....

our last trip was 10 days, and we only spent 7 in the parks.....our arrival day we got there early, checked in, went shopping at downtown disney and explored our resort, hung by the pool, got unpacked. then we spent some time at disneyquest for a few hours, then had PS for Chef Mickey's dinner. after dinner we went up to the cali grill balconey to watch the fireworks (which they don't allow you to do anymore). it was a great non park day and start to our trip.

we took a mid trip break too- spent some time by the pool, visiting BB for a few hours, did some laundry and then went resort-hopping which we loved! after going commando for 4 days straight, including getting up at like 5:30-6am and going til midnight or later, we needed the mid week relax day.

our last day was non park as well since we were leaving in the early evening....we did a character breakfast at GF and explored their grounds. then checked out of DXL/POR and headed to DTD for last minute shopping. another great to end to our vacation.
