How many actually purchase seats for 1-yr-old?

Just got back home to Orlando last night from visiting family and bought our 6 month old a seat. Thank the lord we had her car seat because she fell right asleep in it both ways and slept both flights:) She loves her car seat and is very comfortable in it which is why we made the choice to buy her a seat and I will continue to do so.

My DH didn't want to buy a seat for the baby but he was the first one to say how happy he was I made him buy her one when we landed.

How do other parents deal with flying with their infants? Do you purchase a seat or not?

We always purchased seats for DD & DS when we flew.
We never thought otherwise.
We knew that it was much safer for the kids to be strapped into their carseats.

If we couldn't have afforded seats for them, we wouldn't have traveled by plane.

Well, it's been entertaining reading all your posts!

My daughter warned me when I started this thread that it might turn confrontational, and she was right. For what it's worth, as a statistician and a skeptical scientist I agree with those who aren't too concerned about an infant's safety on a plane when not belted in (at least relative to busses and cars). However, as a grandfather and father, my decision was to purchase the fare for my grandson, and it will be worth every penny in peace-of-mind for me and his parents!

Now, don't let me interrupt your arguments:goodvibes

That's why I always just focus on the ease factor and the arm-pain factor. :) I've done both, and having him in a seat was just flat-out easier on us and he had more fun.

Okay I'm mean mom but I buy one to keep my kids in their seat. Sorry you can't get up and walk around. While safety is important to me keeping my kids in there seat and a peaceful ride is important to me too:thumbsup2

Yes, I absolutely always buy EVERYONE a seat. I would never be able to live with myself if my baby were injured or killed in turbulence or an emergency landing especially when I knew better and chose to compromise safety to save a buck.

We've always bought a seat for ourr kids. Honestly - it's not about the safety factor although that helps. It's all about not wanting them bouncing around on me for 3 hours!;)

That's me. Another statistician - risk is minimal and I take small risks with my kids all the time (bike riding is a much larger risk, BATHING them is a much larger risk than having them on an airplane on your lap). But having them on my lap - there isn't enough room in that seat for me to be comfortable by myself (and I'm a fairly slim woman).

Our flight's 10+ hours long so we've always bought our babies seats when they were over 1 yr old. We've had to pay the full adult fare, like $550+ per ticket. :sad2: :scared:

We bought a ticket for Ds when we go this Sept. He is too big for me to hold the whole time and he sits in his car seat just fine. Plus I need the car seat to get to the airport and from MCO to WDW. I have no past experience but this is my plan and I think a seat is a good idea! have a fun trip!:goodvibes
