In getting to my goal of running the Disney 1/2 marathon in 2009, I've decided to try out the Disney 5K. However, due to work and travel restraints I won't be able to make the Animal Kingdom 5K this Jan.

As I was digging for information though I found a couple of reports of various 5K runs at Disney that are held throughout the year but I can't find any concrete information on them. I'd love to attend one them so if anyone has any information it would be much appreciated.

Not sure of any others, but there is the Minnie Marathon Weekend 5K in May 2008. Check out disneysports.com It's listed under headline events.

The past year they had the following 5k races that I know about:

Marathon Weekend Family 5k (AK)
NKF 5k (Epcot?)
Minnie Marathon 5k (Downtown Disney)
Race for the Cure 5k (WWoS)

The Go Red for Women 5k(Minnie Marathon Weekend) is May 3, 2008 and is EPCOT.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has a 6.5K option also.

I was also looking for info on this. I think the 5k would be an awesome goal for me to start with.. I see the Minnie one for May '08 -- what do you think would be the next one after that?? Do they always do a 5k in January also?

The next one would be the Race for the Cure. It was Sept this year but is usually the day before the Race for the Taste 10K which is in Oct. The Komen people told me they couldn't work out an Oct date this year but like to run it in Oct as it fits with there cause.

Yes, they always have the 5K on Fri before the marathon weekend.

Ok.. so basically, you think they will have a 5k in January of 2009??

May is probably out (too many vacations planned.. LOL) But, i would highly consider doing on in Jan 2009 if they have it..
Is that what the "goofy race" is this year? I didn't remember seeing a 5k mentioned for this jan 2008.. but i am confused on the whole Goofy, Donald.. etc thing.. LOL

Yes, they will have the 5K on Fri, the 1/2 on Sat, and the Full on Sun in 09 and .....

The Goofy is doing both the 1/2 & Full(I am going for my 3rd Goofy). Donald medal for 1/2, Mickey medal for Full, and Goofy medal for doing both. The 5K is themed different every year and in a different park. you do get a "medal" for finishing.

For the real crazy people there is an unofficial "Dopey"(no medal given) wher you do all three race. I signed up for the 5K plus Goofy but will wait and see if I do all three.

Thanks so much Robert! Wow.. now i can see why they call it the "Goofy"!! LOL
So, the 5k has no specific character name..

Thanks a ton for the info guys. I wish I could make the May 5K but we've already planned on going in mid May and there's a few "issues" preventing us from going earlier. I will absolutely be there for the Sept/Oct run as soon as they set a date though.

Next newbie question -- do you book thru that Anthony travel co. that is listed on the WWS website? It says they have packages starting from 299, but i can't find any more info about it..
Or do you just book it all separate? Does WDW provide you with transport to the race from your WDW hotel?

My biggest fear would be flying alone to go.. LOL Flying is not my fav - but it's easier to go with family.. but IF i were able to do this, it would probably have to be solo.
