How Long Will The $100 DVC Discount on WDW APs Last???

I was just wondering if anyone knows/thinks how long the DVC discount on WDW APs will last? Will it end as the HCOE ends? My next WDW trip isn't until June, so I really don't want to buy APs in advance just for the discount.....

Has DVC been offering this discount for a while? Is it a pretty standard discount or a limited time promotion?

I remember them beginning to offer the discount early Jan 05. We purchased APs with that discount. IMO, I feel they will continue to offer these discounts to members for awhile until they see a change in DVCers going to the parks. I for one appreciate the discount and it makes me want to go as many times as possible financially in one year.

DVC has always had some form of discount for admission. Early buyers at OKW and VB got free park hopper passes as a purchase incentive. When that incentive ended in 1996 (the passes themselves ran thru 1999), there was still a 10% DVC discount off of the Hopper Passes purchased.

That discount ended when the MYW passes began as jimmytammy ended and was replaced with the nice discount on AP/PAP for members.

I expect some form of DVC discount to be ongoing in the future ... and actually expect the AP discount to continue for a long time.

Stay tuned! :)

I agree with Doc, I think the AP discount is more popular for most DVCers than the 10% off length of stay passes. While APs aren't for everyone, many DVCers do schedule enough days throughout a year that the AP work well for them.

I agree with Doc. The discount on the AP probably is the best return on a perk investment that Disney can make. Giving us a discount on the length of stay pass didn't really help Disney much since it was only for the one trip.

What returns money to Disney is getting people to make more trips than they might have otherwise, and once they're in Orlando spending as much time in WDW parks and facilities as possible. Both of these objectives are met with the AP discount.

I know it has worked for us, as we used to get Park Hopper passes and spend significant amount of time off site visiting other areas. Now that we use AP's, we tend to spend more time and money in the WDW area.

So sorry to hear this about jimmytammy!! :sad1:

I agree with you guys. I think as long as Disney sees a return from offering DVCers AP discounts, they will continue them, and I expect (HOPE) that will be for a LONG time! :thumbsup2

we got the annual pass discount - because DVC is now included with the resorts and tickets.... (tickets being the key word).

DVC tried to get us the annual pass before and failed.

so as long as DVC is included in the resorts and tickets - then yes we will probably have the discount.

but if for some reason if the future if DVC is by itself again - don't expect any discount....

Any and all discounts are offered through other parts of WDW and can be changed or cancelled at any time. DVC does not control the other parts of WDW.

we can hope and wish for the annual pass to continue - but with all discounts offered by DVC - don't count on it.

It doesn't really matter when you buy them; it's when you first use them. So get them whenever you want to!

That's right, and another thing to consider is that the pass rates usually increase near the end of the year, or around the 1st of the year, so purchasing them now will be a bigger savings anyway.

LOL!

Sorry about that jimmytammy! I apparently had another senior moment while typing that sentence - my tongue covered my eye teeth and I couldn't see what I was typing! ;)

That should have been : "That discount ended when the MYW passes began as jimmytammy suggested and was replaced with the nice discount on AP/PAP for members."

The rumors of jimmytammy's demise have been greatly exaggerated! :smooth:

I do think that if they were to discontinue the AP discount, MS would probably give us a little notice(maybe a couple of weeks to a month). You could always wait and purchase it then.

I love the discount that we get on AP's as DVC members. My DH and I already had a 7 day vacation in January (where we met up with JimmyTammy, Diane, and Bill & Deb), and we have a 14 day trip planned in August and a 8 day trip planned in December. We are definately getting our money's worth and Disney isn't making out too bad either will all of the souvineers and food we buy! If they did away with the discount I would have to consider buying vouchers for the AP so that years from now when the price is sky high, I can just turn in my little voucher. Boy I wish I bought tickets years ago when they never expired!

So, let's say I buy an AP today for $315 w/ the DVC discount. If I don't use the AP until June 2007, the AP will be valid until June 2008?

So, everyone thinks that it is likely that we will receive warning if DVC pulls the AP discount. They won't pull it suddenly?

Unless the guidelines have changed...yes, you can by a AP voucher today and redeem it June 2007 and it will be valid until June 2008.

Zoomshare :woohoo:

I think there will be rumors, but no official warning. They've never given a warning yet that I'm aware of that a perk is changing, or that AP pricing is going up, etc. But usually CM's drop some hints which get to this board quickly! :)

As a DVC owner living out of state I would not have bought the ap without the discount so yes I am spending more $ and time at the parks Disney knows this I think it will be around awhile. :cool1:

I'm not sure why or where this thread was moved.

Buying admission/APs is part of planning.....

We did get some advance warning that the AP/PAP discount was coming. Believe it was first announced at the annual meetings. Of course that is no guarantee that we'll get any notice that it's being discontinued. However, it is a very popular discount and would be difficult for DVC to discontinue.

Rahter than abruptly stopping the discount (assusming they even want to, LOL), I think they will just let it "fade away" by not increasing the amount of the discount when AP/PAP prices increase. Perhaps that is why they have never referred to the discount as a percentage in any of the official documents - it's always the dollar amount.

Best wishes -
