How long to wait for a confirmation #?

Hi all, DVC newbie here...and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me.

What is the process of making a confirmed reservations? When making reservations through Member Services, how long it should take to get some sort of confirmation number for that reservation? From the posts here, I was under the impression that a confirmation was given out not long after a reservation is made.

As a LONG-time Disney guest, I am used to getting a confirmation number immediately upon making the reservation. I usually take that number and put it on the top of all of my spreadsheet pages and pretty much do everything but carve it into my own forehead to make certain that I have it (in case something goes wrong). But this was my first time making a reservation with my brand-new DVC points, and I was told that it would take "a little while" to get an actual confirmation.

Because I used Developer points along with my regular points, I was told that the reservation doesn't appear on the DVC Member website. Do they call you? Is it mailed out? This is now September 21, and I made the reservations on August 6. I have called three times and was told that the reservation is in their computer...but do I just go to WDW with the name of the person I talked to? I KNOW I have control issues, but that seems just a little too iffy to me.

All of you know the way things work, so please let me know if I am worrying over nothing. I don't mind waiting, because the reservation isn't until April. I also wonder what people do who make shorter-term reservations do.

Thanks for any advice...even if I get flamed for worrying too much.

I am in the process of using my developer points as well, I called last Monday and basically booked everyday that week as there were no avaiability for certain days I wanted. Got everything, and now I have to cancel:sad2: . When I called Monday they told me they had the ressie number for all the dates except for the Friday. So maybe if you just asked them for the ressie number they will provide you with it. Also they told me that comfirmation will come in the mail 7-10 days.

They told me the same thing...but that was more than 1 1/2 months ago. I have asked for the number and I am told that it will come in the mail and to just wait for it.

I'm sorry you had to cancel. Are you able to rebook?

When I called them the Monday I just wanted to make sure that I had all my dates correct since I had two categories that I booked (savanah and concierge) and made sure the cancel what they should have. She confirm it for me and than told me that my ressie numbers are showing up and she just gave it to me. She even told me to call back and get the last ressie number. Maybe you should just ask them to confirm your ressie and than ask if your ressie number is in the computer. My dates were for Dec 15-23 if that makes a differnce.

I haven't cancel yet, probally on Monday, I will rebook for May hopefully.:goodvibes Good luck getting your ressie number, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Using developer points is stressful. As you know, the ressie does not show up on the DVC website, you do not immediately get a confirmation number(if at all), and MS has to access a different screen when you call to even see the developer points and ressie. I had a ressie for Sep. 3 at BWV, never recieved my conformation number, and was told by MS that I wouldn't need it, just need my drivers liscense. Everything went smooth at check - in, however I was a mess up until that point. It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult for a company as large as Disney to simplify this process for its members.:confused3 All worked out well in the end.

Thank you, Mikeandkarla, for letting me know that I am not the only one. I am planning a GG for 18 people, so I will be more than a mess up until that point. Can you imagine getting there and not having reservations? I'd have to jump off the Tower of Terror! :confused3

Maybe I should give another call to MS on Monday to see if they can put my mind at ease.

Thank you.

6 weeks is too long to wait for a confirmation. I'd be nervous that something was wrong, too.

Call MS back and ask for the confirmation number again. (They are open today from 1p -5p Eastern). Explain that you made the reservation 6 weeks ago with developer points and haven't received a confirmation letter. If you get the same response (it will come in the mail), ask for a supervisor.

Good luck and be sure to let us know what happens.

Thank you for the affirmation. Unfortunately, I was out all day and just read your message now. I will call on Monday and let you know. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much to everyone who offered advice...especially to CarolMN. I called today and after a VERY long time on hold, I was given my confirmation numbers. I can really start planning now! Whoo-hoo! :cool1:
