How long to wait before I call?

I've been putting in applications for places that I know are hiring (I waitress).

What's the "rule" on how long I should wait to call about my application? I was thinking 3 -4 days, but I'm not sure if that's too soon. I just don't want my application to end up buried in a pile by the time I do call.

I would call the next day. If they are hiring, they will be excited by your enthusiasm. If they aren't really hiring, they will tell you.
