We leave in 57 days and decided to get passport now.

If we mail off our original birth certificates, we have nothing to get on the boat with!

How long did it take you to get your passport? Do I take a chance?

I live in Texas if this matters and I planning on going in the morning to get them, i have all our needed documents/photos. (4/6) :confused3

We did too!! 19 days and no expedited service. :goodvibes

It took between 23 and 25 days.

It took 6 weeks for mine to get to me. So, be careful and you might want to put the fast service on it.

DW and I got both back in about 3 weeks (we did them 2 weeks apart).

If you MUST have the passport, I would not take a chance. You need to send in your certified birth certificate in with the application so you will not have that as a backup in case the passports are late (unless you have an extra certified copy of your birth certificates).

Just received ours yesterday...4/4, applied for them on 3/7...so, less than a month to get them!!

Ours took 28/29 days.

We were told when we applied that if they did not show up in 39 days (or right about 6 weeks) to start making calls.

Well, we went ahead and took our chances. We have 60 days till we leave and hopefully that is enough. The office said it should be at our house in 42 days or less. BUT our mailperson has a bad habit of delivery things to the wrong house!! I will need pixie dust that I havent made a big mistake by giving out my ONLY copy of our birth certificates.
BUT I will order more if the passports havent arrived by 2 1/2 weeks before. My kids were born local, it is just me that would need one from Illinois. :wizard: i will pray for mickey magic!

It's not a bad idea to have an extra copy of your birth cert anyway, so you might just want to get an extra now and you'll have it in case your passport is delayed. Turnaround time for them is usually a lot quicker than passports.

I went up to the county court clerk today and got a birth cert. for both the kids, they printed it right there. $22, then I ordered mine from Illinois. Says it should be a week from when they recieve the check. $10

So for peace of mind, yes I got another copy! thanks! ;)

I already have a passport but it has expired. So when I send in for a renewal do I have to send a brith certificate with it too?

We live near DC which has a passport office (don't know if that made a difference). We paid extra to have the expedited service. We went to the post office on Monday and our passports arrived on Saturday. I would caution you not to use any online services which may add $100 or more to "hand carry" your application to a passport agency. The expedited service worked very well for us. Good luck! :flower:

I think you only have to send in your old passport to renew.

If your passport is expired more than 15 years you have to do the whole process all over again. If you became married during that time you also have to present a certified marriage license. :cool1:

If you are renewing, you only need to send them your old passport, new photos and money. It can be done through the mail. You can download the application from their website.
