The bigger trick is getting back to your resort/hotel using Disney transportation.
On our last trip, we were staying at CSR and ate dinner at AKL on our AK day. Originally, we planned to just go straight from AK to AKL, but we, instead decided to leave the park around 1 pm in order to go back to our resort and swim.
On the way to dinner, we took the bus from CSR to AK and then transfered to a bus from AK to AKL. As I recall, once we got to AK, we waited for about 6-8 minutes for an AKL bus. The bus ride from AK to AKL then took about 10-12 minutes, as they stopped off at Kidani first.
After dinner, the AK park had long since closed. So we caught an EP bus (it was right there as we walked out of AKL). Once at EP, we transfered to a CSR bus (it arrived the exact same time we got to the CSR bus stop). That entire trip took about 35 minutes, but we were very lucky with the buses.
On our next trip, we're planning to stay at the Poly and again eat a dinner at AKL. On the way out, we'll probably monorail to MK then take the AKL bus from there. On the way back, we'll catch either a MK or EP bus (whichever comes first) and then monorail back to Poly.
I know we could save a lot of time by simply taking cabs. But I don't mind taking the Disney transportation and sort of enjoy the logistical challenge of figuring the best way to get from point A to B.
