I left my job teaching in my old school when we recently relocated to our new home. I am pretty miserable in my new school and desperately miss my old job. Now is the time to call and get my old job back which is available in September but the commute is approximately 50 minutes. The job I hate is only 15 minutes away. I really do not think that 50 minutes is that terrible of a commute but my husband seems to think that over time it will wear me down.

How long is your commute?

Right now, it's just 15 minutes, and I *love* that.

But, in the past I've had 30 minute and 45 minute commutes. While I *hated* the 45 minute commute and it did wear me down a lot, if it was for a job I loved, I'd do it again.

Right now, I'm just lucky that the job I enjoy is only 15 minutes away. :)

Mine is fortunately only 20 minutes (which is difficult to come by in Atlanta). I wouldn't let a short commute keep me at a job that I hated though. 50 minutes isn't a bad trade off for a job that you love, IMHO.

I'm lucky.... only 10 minutes (with traffic). I would go back to what makes you happy!!!

Well, I'm very fortunate and I only have about a 6 minute drive. Of course the island is only 28 miles long, so I can't go too far :D :D :D

My commute is getting out of bed!!! :p :p I'm a stay at home mom. DH though it's a different story. It takes him 1 1/2 hours to get into Manhattan door to door.

30 or 45 minutes depending on the time of year. I live in the burbs and a lot of kids go to private schools in the city. So during the school year, traffic is a lot heavier - with all the mommy/daddy chauffers on the road.

Life is too short, to make yourself miserable. What's an extra 35 minutes commute time compared to 8/9 solid hours of misery at work?

My commute is 8 minutes. Before I was a SAHM for 12 years I had a job I detested that was a 20 minute commute. I quit it and got a job I loved that was a 60 minute commute, sometimes longer with bad weather. I satyed at that job for 4 years and don't regret a minute of it. Take the job you love.

It takes me about 20 minutes to get to work. It takes my SO about an hour to get to work. He's been commuting that distance for a few years and kinda enjoys the peace and quiet of the commute.

Hiya,

I agree with everyone else: take the job you love! the commute will not be that bad, esp. if you are looking forward to work!

My daily commute is about an hour from my door to my office door (and back again in the evening!), with 45 mins of that spent on the train... I take books, music, magazines... whatever and generally the time passes pretty quickly!

Over the last few years I've even taught myself (some) Cantonese on my commute and things like that - you can really make use of the time if you want to, and if you are not driving of course.

One of the most important factors about a job IMHO, is whether or not it makes you happy.

Take care,
Gaspode

2 minutes....I work part time at home. But I used to commute and 1 1/2 one way.....3 hours round trip. Boy was I tired. Luckily, I knew that the bank I was at was going to be bought out and would eventually lose my job so it wasn't a hard decision to give it up. When I did finally quit, I was very worn out with driving, to this day I still don't like to drive.

70 to 90-minutes each-way down Rt. 93/128 every day. (Waves at CamColt)
But I love the job, so it doesn't really matter.
I had a 5 minute commute to a job I despised for three years. As a result, this commute isn't killing me.

Its anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes :)

My commute in only 10 minutes. I had a long commute for a year and a half and hated it (some people love driving - I'm not one of them). If the job really makes you happy and you don't mind driving go for it.

Mine is 45 minutes and while I can't say I LOVE my job I do enjoy it enough to stay and I have a great arrangement. Around here a lot of people commute an hour or more. I'd say go for it. It won't seem like a big deal to drive that far for something you love. Good luck:)

Depending on our crazy weather....
It takes me 30 mins. in the summer.
In the winter it takes 45 mins to an hour.
