I hope not to sound to stupid but when at WDW and a child has a birthday can they wear a hat or button a few days either side of the actual day or is that to tacky?

Im in the minority on this one but I will give you my opinion. We just returned a couple weeks ago. My kids celebrated their birthdays with a trip to WDW....their birthdays are in December. We have 1/2 birthdays at our house since all 3 of the kids were born in December(the 4th, the 9th and the 31st) It works out great since I dont have to get mad at the family for combining Christmas and their birthdays.

Anyway, if the kids dont feel weird about it, then go for it. Our kids had a great time with the buttons and even explained it to our server when she asked if they were born on the same day.

Nobody ever asks for ID to give you a birthday button. I wore mine mid-October (my bday is Nov 8) since the trip was a bday celebration.

Also, if they feel wierd to wear a birthday pin on days that isn't a birthday for them, you can always have an unbirthday pin since your unbirthday is on 364 days a year!

my friend and i are going in september 2 weeks before my bday and 2 weeks after hers...were wearing the buttons!

thanks for your info.
I just wanted to make sure that if people saw us one day and then the next they would think we were somehow ' cheating' by possibly getting extra attention. My husband tells me I worry to much about what others think. I tell him I have to worry twice as much since he does not worry at all ;)

Please no flaming, you asked for opinions!! I think a birthday button should be worn ON YOUR ACTUAL BIRTHDAY ONLY!!! It is cheating!! If you want to celebrate your birthday in WDW, PLAN YOUR VACATION ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!!! JMO!! :earseek:

I celebrated my 40th there 1.5 yrs ago...and I wore the Disney birthday hat shaped like a cake almost everyday....and the buttons I wore on my actual birthday and beyond I think..

They will be there on her birthday -

let her wear the button as long as she wants - I let my DD do this last year and this year we are going the week before her birthday (to use our AP's) and I am going to let her pick a day to be her birthday -

People have birthday parties on days other than their birthdays ALL the time - my kids get to celebrate with both sets of grandparents and sometimes with their friends - all on different days and sometimes all on days other than their birthday - and if they get a card in the mail on a day other than their birthday - I let them open it!! And at work - if someone's birthday was on the weekend - I might say Happy Birhtday on FRIDAY!!! :earseek:

I think the only people who can say you are wrong to do this are the people who have only celebrated their birthday on their actual day!!!!!!!

I think a birthday should be celebrated on your actual birthday ~ where ever you happen to be. Wearing a birthday button for days for attention?? :sad2:

Although it might be preferable to go on your birthday, sometimes you just can't due to work, illness, etc. We are going in early Dec. My DH and I will be celebrating our anniversary at WDW. Since we live in Ohio and FIL lives in Florida, we will be celebrating his birthday as well which is the end of December. Maybe some people have a problem with it, but I don't care. His grandchildren will be back in Ohio on his birthday so why can't we celebrate at WDW with him? :confused3

Yes we will be there for her birthday. Originally her birthday was going to be in the middle of the vacation but we changed dates to get free dining so now her birthday is our last full day there. After all it is not like they pay you for your birthday so what does it hurt if she gets a few ' extra' birthday wishes. There will still be enough for everyone else. ;)
Guess I should have just done what I wanted and not opened up a can of worms :confused3

I agree. Why would you even want birthday wishes if it's not your birthday? :confused3

I don't think you opened a can of worms, you just asked for opinions. No shortage of those here at the DIS! :flower:

I actually had my 40th Birthday at Disney last december.. it was a very special day and I can't imagine being in a better place. We played mini putt, shopped at downtown Disney (got my button!) had a nice lunch...a CM in one of the stores sang happy birthday to me - it was very sweet :) then we had dinner at the California Grill and watched Wishes during dinner. It could not have been a better day. Probably the best birthday I have ever had.

Having said that, I can't imagine pretending it was my BD when it was not!

My kids are very literal and would not do it because the button says "today is my birthday".

If your celebrating a birthday and the kids are ok with wearing it before or after the trip then celebrate away!

I will say that if you want something special your best bet is to plan it yourself as the "perks" for birthdays vary from none to great. When booking a PS mention the birthday your celebrating and if you really want a cake then go ahead and order one, this is the only way to be sure you will get one.

Personally, I think it's tacky, but obviously most people don't.

IMO, it's one thing to celebrate a birthday privately, with your family or friends for a period in excess of a day, but another thing entirely to wear a button proclaiming to strangers that it's your birthday when it's not.

I wouldn't do it or let my kids do it. To us, it would be lying.

Just a little curious. I know many people who open presents up on Christmas Eve. Is that wrong since the calandar does not say Dec.25 !

I guess we are all different and thats what makes the world go round. Anyway thanks for the opions.

That being said maybe Disney shouldn't put up their Christmas decorations or have any Christmas shows until the actual Christmas Day. :confused3

Sorry, I just don't see the difference.

No, because there is no lie involved. Unless of course you promised Aunty Jane you wouldn't open her package until Christmas, then you opened it the the day before. I wouldn't do that either.
