I've heard that they are good longer than an hour. Is that true, If so how much longer?

Sorry, just an hour. There might be a 15 minute grace period, but I wouldn't count on it.

They are printed with a return time on them. You have to return within that time window. If your the first person to get a FP for it then your return window will be early in the morning and if you are one of the last ones to get a FP (and they only last a couple hours after DCA opens usually)then your return time could be close to park closing time or anywhere in between. The more people that get them the further into the day/ evening the return time goes.

As mom2rtk said, DLR is enforcing return times, so you must plan on returning within the time frame printed on the FP. The return window for a standard attraction FP is one hour (e.g., 10:00 am to 11:00 am). There may be a grace period, but it depends on the CM on duty, the crowds, etc. You cannot count on there being a grace period (I've heard everything from 5 to 15 minutes). The only times that FPs are consistently accepted outside of the printed time window is if the attracted was shut down during your time window. At that point, the CMs will usually honor the FP later in the day.

oh, no, I had heard that they were being printed with longer return times, not that people skated the system, sad this is not true

Unless things have changed very recently, the return window is still only one hour.

As of our trip last month, the window was only an hour. We were never turned away when we showed up 5 minutes early or within a minute or two late for any ride.

They may have meant that the return times are longer (later) in the future than one hour away -- i.e. pulling a FP at 10:00 a.m. for 5-6:00 p.m. -- but no FP is good for more than an hour window, at least not since they started enforcing return times a couple years ago.
