How long is a flight to San Fransisco

We're flying out at the end of March and the brochures/invoice all say between 11.5 - 12.5 hours.

Friends have told us it didn't take any more than 9 hours . . . . so who can I believe!

Anyone out there done this route (Virgin: Heathrow to San Fran), so I can make sure our party of seven (four adults, three kids) have got sufficient food (well, it is Virgin!) and things to amuse ourselves (our friends have not flown this far before, their kids no further than Greece).

Have flown to San Fran and it took 10 hours. We flew with Virgin and the time went very quickly. They had the modern in flight system with Nintendos etc!!!

San Fran is a fab place you will have a great time!!!

Well I believe UK to LA is 12 hours so I'd imagine that to be about the same.

A direct flight from Heathrow to San Francisco is 10hrs 50mins and the return is 10hrs

We have flown Manchester to San Francisco loads of times and the flight times have varied. However I would say that it will be close to 11 - 12 hours. It has never taken 9 hours!

I've flown to SFO twice with virgin, both times took 9 1/2 hours!!

Flew LHR to SFO in 2003 with VA and it was around 10hrs 20 minutes, according to my trip report. Departure is 1100 from Heathrow and landing at San Francisco local time is at 1350. Off again in just over 100 days

Our flight from LHR-SFO took 11 hours on the way there and 10 hours on the way home. This was with VA just a few weeks ago.

This is not personal but i think comments like "I dislike the airbus intensely" are unfounded personal comments and other DIS members should not be basing their travel options on comments like these. Each company configs their planes to their specification so if you dont have a great journey it is more likely it is the Airline and not the manufacturers fault. I have heard the BMI seats on the A330 we are travelling on are not comfortable but should this mean i dislike Airbus?

I am not keen on the airbus due to there being no 'bubble', it is so much nicer in the bubble.
