How long have you kept your trip secret?

Since my last post here (2 days ago!!!) i have planned a weekend with my DD and a friend and her mom in January! I am not planning on telling my DD until we get on the plane if that is possible!! Since she is only 5 1/2, I can do all the planning when she is sleeping or go next door with my friend and plan! I hope it works, I am so excited I don't know if I can keep it secret! Wish me luck!!

My sister, her husband (and I to a lesser extent, since I live in a different state) kept the secret from their then 9 year old sons a little over a year.
We booked reservations for Dec 99/Jan 00 In late November 98..
From what my sister tells me, while watching the Xmas parade on Xmas day 1999, one of the boys actually came out with "I wanna go to Disney World for the Millenium" They thought their next trip back was three years in the future. And the Millenium Celebration was being heavily promoted during the parade broadcast.
They put the boys to bed Xmas night and immediatly starting pulling the tree down to get it out of the house before they left and packing their car (including sneaking into the sleeping boys room to pack their stuff.
They woke them up the next morning "get in the car, we're going to Disney World!" We've got it on video tape
I flew down and arrived in FL the same night they did by car. We stayed in an offsite motel that night and the next morning I met my sister in the lobby while my brother in law gor the boys and their luggage loaded. When we went out to the car I stayed behind my sister as she went up and said something to the boys about picking up a hitchhiker.
It was all pretty exciting.

I too only lasted about 5 min. But because of an unexpected downfall we've had, I have had to tell DD this trip might not happen. Well thank goodness all the money stuff has worked itself out and we are still going! Yay!
After reading all these great posts I am thinking maybe I wont tell DD8 that the trip is a go and see what happens.

I am going on 2 months of not telling my FI. FI's brother and sister and families are taking their 6 children for the families first time ever in August.

FI and I are getting married in November so for us to go was impossible due to saving and vacation time.

Well...thanks to Uncle Sam this year, I was able to save enough money and take FI to meet up with his family in Disney for his 30th B-day!!!! I called his boss and explanied to him how much this was mean to him and he HAD to have 3 days of work off. He was fine with it and said have a blast.

Here we are 2 months later and FI has NO CLUE! He keeps telling me if we werent getting married this year he would have loved to gone to Disney to see his nieces and nephews faces. Hee Hee

I am packing for FI and putting his luggage in my car-then I am telling him we are going to my parents for the weekend and that he needs to pick me up at work at 5pm. My work is 5 minutes for the Philadelphia Airport! I will tell him when we park at the airport.

I can't believe I am holding this in...especially when he keeps asking me why I never put my taxes into our wedding fund!

After a big trip in 2001, we told the kids (then 3 and 7) we weren't going back anytime soon. Well we had a great opportunity to go the next fall, and planned a surprise trip. We managed to get all the way to Auto train station before they figured out what was going on, and even that took a couple minutes to sink in. Of course we didn't start planning until June, and our trip was in Sept. I don't think we could've lasted too much longer than we did.
