How long for the mail ?

We are going to be sending a USD draft to Walt Disney Travel Co for our package rather then pay the extra 2.5% if we put it onto a visa/MC.

Anyone have experience with how long the mail takes to get it down there?

I like keeping my $ as long as possible.

Regular mail? I did this once....it took about 12 days. I had to call them and extend the deposit date.

I don't have an answer to your question but I am surprised that the Walt Disney Travel Co. would charge a premium to use a CC. I thought that the merchant agreements with Visa/MC strictly prohibited retailers from charging a higher price if you were paying by CC rather than cash. A know that a number of smaller retailers try to pass on part of the Visa/MC transaction fees to the purchaser anyways and maybe my understanding of the merchant agreements is incorrect but I am surprised that Disney would do this.

Its not WDTC that charges the premium but any Cdn Credit card practically. they charge the exchange rate plus usually 2.5% of the purchase for a service charge.

In order to avoid this, we got a US$ mastercard from the BMO. I applied directly at my branch and received the card in 2 weeks. All charges are made in US$ including service charges. You also have to pay in US funds. I just transfer funds from my US$ account. CIBC also offers a US$ Visa. TD must also have something. You might have time to do this before you final payment is due.

I thought of those USD cards but then you have annual fees - anywhere from $25 to $65 depending on the bank. I could not find a usd card for BMO. Whats your annual fee of that USD card?


We don't head to the states enough to warrant the annual fee.

You can not apply for the US$ BMO card online. Has to be done in branch or they will send you a form if you call. You decide what features you what to put on your card, and the features correspond to the annual fee cost. I picked the Silver Airmiles card with the $35 fee. They have a Bronze card with no annual fee. Hope this helps!!

You could send your payment by courier instead of by air mail. It would be faster but more expensive. I prefer courier when I can because I get a tracking number so you know where your package is and when it has arrived.

I asked about this card at the Toronto head office a couple of weeks ago. The teller told me that she would give me a bonus of 50 Air Miles (on top of whatever was being offered) if I brought my application back to her. I guess they get bonuses/commissions for signing up people. So remember to ask! It never hurts
